T-mobile complaint.. chance of sorting it out?

Options
Hi

Right, im in the process of buying a house - imagine my surprise when i got turned down for "late payments" on the credit check.

I use Noddle and there was nothing showing on there, so ive ordered an equifax and experian one.

Imagine my horror to see that i have four missed payments showing from T-Mobile...

I have a sim from them that was free (part of that hotukdeals thing last year) - its never been used and is still in its packet.

I contacted T-mob today and they said that theres arrears on the account because the zero-cost line rental was a 12 month only offer which ran out at the end of october and a bill should have been sent.. (again received NOTHING in the post - and i never setup an online account either) This still doesnt account for my credit reports showing 4 missed payments

There has been zero correspondance from T-mob since getting this sim..

What are my chances of getting this sorted out and them putting my credit report right - at the moment im going to have to pull out of a house purchase and loose £500 for not being able to get a mortgage with that on the report :(

I assume you took out a 12 month contract and didn't cancel it at the end of the 12 months in which case it will have become a monthly rolling contract.
I don't know what the deal was but assume it became a chargeable one if you didn't cancel

You will need to look at the terms and conditions of the contract.

There is normally a catch to these sort offers though normally you give you bank details at the start and hope would be that after the 12 months they keep billing as you stay with them or forget the free period is over.

Suggest you pay the debt and see how quickly the late payments show as settled. Your best hop is probably to get a couple remove if there should only be 1-2.

Probably worth after that going to see a whole of the market broker to see if they can help you

Thanks for the replies... its got me pretty stressed out this eve.

I have settled the balance on the phone (a tenner), and have been given the address of complaints and credit referrals depts. ill get letters out to them on monday

There are several questions here really that i need to find out

why 4 months - according to their CS a bill was generated on Nov 1st (that i haven't received) and generally the payment is due 14 days later.

I remember giving them my bank details when siging up online- but CS say there wasnt a DD.

As you say even if they can remove some of the history as goodwill will be a step in the right direction. however i fear i may loose the house im trying to buy (and the £500+ ive already spent on surveys and conveyancing)

What date did you take out the contract ?...in theory it would be about 14 months ago ...the bill is probably online billing.

Perfectly normal to give out bank details for proof of age and ID etc without setting up a DD

You may want to post he mortgage problems on the mortgage board as there as very knowledgable brokers on there who should be abl give advice.

I suspect it will depend on your LTV and an other issues but I'd be pretty surprised if you have problems getting a mortgage due to late payments totalling £10 especially now they are settled.

I suspect your problem with T mobile will be that if no DD was set up and online billing was agreed then unless you set up an online account you would have never known the problem.

Having looked back at my emails it was early Nov last year.. (around the 4th) -

I did think possibly there was online billing setup, but trying to login on their site, they have no account tied to my email address - the last email i had from them was a "getting started" email 04/11/11

It was on HotUKdeals - it was originally a glich that processed for £0 and £0 monthly. As expected originally T-mob refused to honour - but then had a change of heart as per this email on 29/10/11:

    Hello,

Thank you for your recent online order with T-Mobile for the SIM card only offer, which was mistakenly priced at £0.

We know some people were disappointed when we told them we’d made a mistake and that it should have been £10 a month.

The great news is that the original offer price will stand and we'll be reviewing all the orders shortly. Once we've done that, we'll begin order processing from Monday onwards.

    What happens next?

We'll contact you from Monday by email with more details about your order.

Please don't contact us in the meantime – we won't be able to update you further until later this week.

If you signed up for the £7.71 a month offer following our last email, we'll be in touch about how we’ll move you to the cheaper price plan too.

We'll be in touch again soon. Thanks for your interest in T-Mobile.

    Kind regards,
    The T-Mobile team

The email after that was a dispatch order on 31/10.

It doesn't add up does it :(

I can't see where the 4 months would come from so there must be a mistake ...even allowing for the timing I could ony see one month being due.

You need to speak to them in the morning and get them to justify the months they are charging for.

Keep us posted on here what they say

So its not just me then! :)

Ill call again tomorrow and also get a letter out to their credit referrals.. and will probably raise cases with the three credit agencies too.
