What if you don't have internet?

  • In my area, the Job Centre has free Internet access. All of the libraries also have free access for members, and of course it is free to join. At the libraries, you can book or take pot luck that there is a computer available. During the day, there tend to be spaces except when a course is held.

Many community centres in my area also have free access to the internet, some with free printing facilities as well. The libraries charge.

A local firm that helps people get into work also offers free Internet and printing. I'm not sure who funds this firm, but the Job Centre refer people to them.

there are plenty of places you can go to use their facilities.

Perhaps you could help the OP by listing them?
  • . 3G dongles are cheap enough that they realistically could supply claimaints with a dongle and credit to help those in rural areas search for work.

Rural areas tend to only get a 2G signal, I live in a rural area and can only get a 3G signal using a antenna fixed on the roof. Even then it often drops down to 2G.

When people ask this question I always wonder to myself if they are just being difficult? There are plenty of ways to access the internet for free if you have a think about it, many of which have been discussed in this thread.

If I was an employer and a potential employee told me they couldn't complete a certain task becasue they didn't have internet access, i'd definitely look upon them as lacking initiative.

Just because it's easy for you !

Those places have restricted access or cost money, they are not suited to work involved in continuous job search.

    Dear oh dear.

Well, what other method would you suggest that employers offer?

I find it hard to imagine that anyone cannot find means to access the internet, with a little bit of effort. Therefore, I stand by my point.

That does not make it easy for everybody.

The fact you find it hard to imagine is problem many people on forums have in understanding other people & difficulties they face.

I think the problem with not having internet at home is being limited to when you can search and apply for jobs. I know that when I have been job hunting if I said right am going to just look at job sites for a couple of hours and apply for x number of jobs I would find myself worrying so much that nothing was suitable, yet sometimes when on websites for fun I would think ah just have a quick look on job centre/ reed whatever and would see something. Hope that makes sense.
Oh and anybody who lives in Manchester the works have free internet not sure if you have to live in man city council area or if greater manchester residents can use it too.
