Any luck with sorting this yet?0 -
Hi,
How strange, I was about to come back and update you all today. The update is: no. I've heard nothing further from anybody. Still have had no police come out to ask any questions or take any statements, and neither have I heard anything more from the estate agents since the letter.
I have been keeping a close eye on things that the estate agents were to set up though (bills, standing order etc), and this has all been done. So to be perfectly honest, I've just been carrying on as if nothing has happened, and Im getting on with enjoying the house. Im significantly less stressed however, but the nagging thought of all this is still at the back of my mind.
Anyway, I will update as soon as I hear anything off anybody, and hopefully this matter will be resolved sooner, rather than later.
Many thanks,

The problem is that this might blow up at the end - when you try to get your deposit back.
I would ask the estate agents if the police have been around to see them regarding the fake money. If they make noises along the lines of "ah, well, don't worry about it", then you know they've been up to no good.
This is very strange. I also think the police have been rubbish - have you tried calling them again?Errors of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it. - Jefferson0 -
To be honest, no. Last time we spoke to them we were basically told to let them do their job. However, because it has now been so long, I will give them a call this week. I will explain my worries about the deposit, and see how it goes from there.
I still can't believe this has happened to me, it seems like one of them things that you read about in the papers or see on the local news. But hey ho, these thing's are sent to try us.

Oh, sorry, my girlfriend just reminded me of something.
She had a phonecall from the estate agents last week, from somebody we'd not actually had any dealings with prior to this phonecall, asking her if she was still looking for anywhere to live. Of course, my girlfriend said no, and that we had somewhere.
It seemed a bit strange at the time, but we dismissed it to lack of communication. Which seems to be the basis of this estate agents. But that is definately the only thing that has happened since. lol Sorry for forgetting that!
Thanks,

No banknote (scotland or otherwise) is legal tender north of the border. All Scottish banknotes are considered "legal currency" and thus must be accepted in transactions by retailers. I must admit when I lived down in London I loved paying for my good with a few Scottish tenners and watching their faces when I said they had to accept it as it says 'Sterling' on it.
Hope the OP sorts this out. It seems quite common now that counterfitters pass fake Scots notes to England and Wales and fake english notes to Scotland as we're less likely to spot a fake note we're not familiar with.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0 -

I've learned something new ....0 -
I don't see why the police didn't just check the notes for finger prints, because that would immediately clear you and your g/f as the notes were sealed and you never touched them, thus making it impossible to switch them!
I very much doubt a bank would give out £500 of dodgy notes, because they tend to want to HELP the police fight against counterfeit notes!
Must admit I've just read this entire thread in one go, and it's quite a gripping story!! My money is on the EA being guilty of switching the notes. Given the stress of the situation (moving house!), they knew how stressed you'd be, so probably thought you'd be in such a panic and hurry to move in, you'd just "admit your mistake" , and hand over another £500 in cash...Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Well, we have our suspiscions yes, but I dont really want to start spouting accusations out just yet. Of course, everybody knows what my obvious thoughts are as many of you are thinking the same.
I do believe the police are supposed to be checking for fingerprints and other forensics, but as I said, they haven't been out to us to get statements, yet alone our fingerprints. I will phone them up this week and let you know what they say.
I agree aswell with the point about the bank giving out fake notes. It's highly unlikely, and it's highly unlikey they would give us Scottish notes, as I asked my bank what happens to Scottish notes, and as people on here have said, any Scottish notes they receive, gets seperated and sent back to the bank of Scotland. Plus, there were not any in our deposit as the woman counted them out!
The truth will emerge I hope, and I will take action from there onwards.

I understand one of the reasons that a lot of businesses don't currently accept Scottish notes is that there have been a lot of fakes in the last few years.
Surely the fact that a large wedge of Scottish notes has turned up - under fishy circumstances, despite the fact that the bank wouldn't have paid out Scottish notes, and oh, gosh, they turned out to be fake - would raise warning bells with EVERYONE?My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0
