Hmm, so why do we get the press covering cases that have not yet gone to court (ie, the 21/7 bombers were everywhere in the press after they were arrested, and before it went to court - wouldn't that prejudice a case?)

Stay Calm Des, don't let this jury/court nonsense get to you, if any evidence is presented it will be forensic in the majority and this is something you have no influence over

Yeah, I have been thinking that to be honest. Im not worried as such, Im more stressed. It's been one thing after another with this estate agents. What I've posted on here is really only the pinnacle of the problems we had, and of course the most serious, but as I said previously, there was no communication from them whatsoever, and their attitude absolutely disgraced me.

Needless to say, I wont ever be using them again. Not that they've actually done anything.

Time will tell, and I hope the police pinpoint who it was.

    Cheers,

Not quite true, you will be reimbursed for a genuine note, counterfeit notes are worthless http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/about/faqs.htm according to the Bank of England

Sorry, but IMO he has a recipt and has paid the EA. It is up to the EA to prove otherwise - I hope they gave you a receipt.

Immediately write back to the EA (email or keep a copy) stating that you refute this, enclose a copy of any paperwork which shows that you paid and mentioning that you have lodged the concern with the police and your own bank and have an eyewitness (your dad) to the events. DOn't just leave it and hope it will all go away, the police and banks can take ages to process this stuff and the police can't really do anything until the BOE has confirmed the legality of the notes. Good Luck

I have all my paperwork kept on file, in a folder. I have kept copies of the letter sent back in response to their demands for the £500. And I have documented times of phonecalls, what was roughly said, and took pictures of the actual times I received phonecalls from the estate agents.

I believe Im doing right by everything, so just have to wait and see what the police say really. I cant do anything until then can I?

    Cheers,

If the EA or landlord harass you, in person or over the phone, over the deposit or anything else report them to the police for harassment. Make sure you inform the police about the fake notes on each occasion.

well easy solution finger prints on the money, they will know which staff handled the money, if there are no finger prints from the banks staff on the notes, then you know it didnt come from the bank.

It would be prudent to speak to solicitor about this if not done so already?

Accused of handling counterfeit money. Harrasment by EA. Chance of being evicted...

The police will come to their conclusions, but that doesn't mean other legal proceedings may be brought against you in the meanwhile.

    Hi there,

    What a horrible situation.

One thing which is worth finding out about is what happened at the LL's Bank. When I worked for a Bank if we were given forged notes we would have given the customer a receipt for them. Has your LL got a receipt from their bank?

The police should be looking into the exact chain of events here. Exactly who had the money & when & for how long?

(hello, just adding this because for some reason this post took hours to appear & I posted it when there were about 5 replies, you have answered this point so now I look like a numpty who didn't read the thread first

    Best of luck to you.
Thanks to all who post comps :A :T
