  • The cheapest nursery I can find want £430 deposit upfront plus the fees in advance of the month, so £1,073 - where am I going to get that from?

I am so tempted to apply for a loan to repay credit cards but I'm really scared I'm going to get rejected. I've had a letter from my bank saying somethings changed on my credit file. When I looked all I could see is my council haven't updated the electoral roll, I've just sent off another form.

  • Childminders are even more expensive overall around here, I just got quoted £5.50 compared to the £5.23 at the nursery. I suppose they may not want such a large amount upfront so I may have to do that option. I feel I'm just going around in circles on this and need to get back to work asap so I can start earning money to pay back my debts instead of making them worse.

best of luck - this isn't an easy decision is it?

Can you plead hardship with the nursery..and ask to pay some of the deposit in chunks?

I certainly never paid all that upfront. They are usually called children's centres. I would just ask the staff. If its sure start they are employed by the council not privately.

  • GOOD NEWS!
I've managed to shift some debt to a 0% card for 24 months. I've also realised there's only 14 payments left on my loan so once that's done I'll have £340 a month to go toward tackling this problem.

    BAD NEWS!
Just tried to increase my overdraft by £1,500 to cover one months childcare and deposit and it got rejected :-(

    MIDDLING NEWS:
I've just got paid with a few keeping in touch days before I go back to work. This month our income just covered our direct debits which means no money left for food or petrol. I really don't want to use credit cards but it might be the only option this month.

Once I'm working properly I'm starting to feel more confident that the debts can be tackled but it's just the difficulty in getting up and running. .....

  • Doing something positive .... deleting all the credit card details that are held at Amazon etc .... it means no more quick clicks to buy something, I'll have to input card information again which will hopefully remind me that I don't really need the item!

  • Hi shiny shoes,

Just stumbled upon your shiny diary And wanted to wish you well in your journey. You had great advice already, possibly echoing what others have said but please don't save the child benefit for your son at the moment. You need it now to help you get through these first tricky months.

In answer to your earlier question , no you aren't doomed !

I have subscribed and will join you on your journey if I may .
