I get very annoyed by the way some people are treated by these so called "Managers??" I spent a long time in the armed forces and found most civilians had a pre-concieved idea that we did a lot of shouting and barking out orders, bullying even. In fact a friend of mine was asked at an interview how he would get people to work for him without shouting at them. Yet I never experienced the sort of treatment that I am reading about here.
Yes, I know businesses are having it tough at the moment and a lot of people want work but that is no excuse to mis-treat their most valuable assests.
Falko, I think your manager needs to learn how to do just that,
- Manage.
Good luck and hope you get through it.
No you didn't you were in the Navy
but seriously now, I was likewise (Army) and I agree with everything you say, bit too much preconception out there.
Best assests - the people who work for/with you0 -

Thats because your lot do.
One of my former bosses was ex army and every other sentence had the words "f**k*ng ****". Imagine walking in in the morning saying "Morning <bosses name>" and getting a "you f**k*ng ****" reply back. It was daily. Everyone was a (do I need to repeat?) and everyone was going to get the sack if he got his way because they were all lazy <no need to repeat>s. It didn't matter that he himself couldn't even be bothered to train anyone, didn't know the job at all and relied on us to keep him afloat, everyone around him was just purely lazy. He was known and despised by other companies employees in the area too.
I've had other colleagues out of the army and they're all the same. All holier than thou, can do nothing wrong but shout, swear and threaten anyone they think they can use as a victim to relieve them of their own personal stress.
So sorry, you making out you and your non-aggressive army chums are all innocent is a load of rubbish. Army people are trained to be aggressive, to shout and be nasty to people. You yourself call us civilians and that says it all - deep down inside you still have the same army mentality but you're trying to show your nice side in public to try and persuade people otherwise.
I will agree on one thing though.. ex army people who get into management do need to learn to manage because from several past experiences I've had, they struggle to cope yet alone manage.0 -

Absolute rubbish, yes there are/were some complete idiots in the mob, but you are doing the usual tarring everyone with the same brush
Army people are trained to be aggressive, to shout and be nasty to people - no we are not

Idiot - but you get them everywhere
All holier than thou, can do nothing wrong but shout, swear and threaten anyone they think they can use as a victim to relieve them of their own personal stress - rubbish
All holier than thou - no generalisations there then
Falko - stick with it mate, it'll work out
Oh, and by the way Tricky, the person you were quoting is an ex-matelot - NOT Army LOL0 -
Thanks for proving my point TrickyWicky!:T
Who said I was ever in the Army? I was; as Buellguy points out; a sailor and I certainly never said that ex-army people need to learn to manage; just the OP's manager.
My lot always do? - as Buellguy said - more generalisation and you do sound quite aggressive yourself.
Anyway, It's not my intention to swing this thread away from the OP's situation and start going on about forces versus civvies - maybe you could start a seperate thread tricky.0 -

Considering all the crap I've had from your ex military chums thats hardly surprising is it. You should know all about being defensive. You were afterall part of the forces that went on the attack in the name of defending this country right?0 -

From all my old military chums? You mean the one reply on this one thread or do you mean those that you had to work for / with? I do however admit that they sound like idiots. (Is there not an idiot in everybody's workplace ?
We did not go on the attack as you say but as part of a stabalisation force. I was myself sent twice (as a sailor, believe it or not) to Afghanistan and I am not ashamed to say that I crapped myself the whole time. In my time there an 8 year old girl was murderd by the Taliban, an 8 year old boy shot in the leg in one of the villages so that they could study our casualty evacuation procedures with a view to mounting a future attack and a local villager who dared to sell watches in our camp was beheaded. If i thought it was just for people like you as opposed to those innocent people I would have disobeyed orders and stayed at home.
I find your comments offensive. (Did you say you were a traffic warden?, I can think of some stereotypes there!)
Please, if you feel the need to enter into a slanging match, start another thread so that this one does not lose sight of FALKO89 and his problem.0 -
Falko,
I know this might not help much but are you part of a trade union and if so have you spoken to one of their reps? If not have you considered joining one?
By the way I am not a trade union member, nor looking to recruit members but my old man was a shop steward and I know he saved a lot of people's jobs at our local cement works in these sorts of situations.0
