Don't think you can beat Heinz.

I did hover between own regular brand 46p to 59p which was ok when Heinz not on offer!
  • Please don't tell me to make my own- i make pretty much everything from scratch, but just cant go through all the hassle of simmering for ages, then straining etc, when its only me that eats soup.[/QUOTE]

Sorry but I have to say this. If you eat that much soup surely it would be worth making your own & freezing it in individual portions. That way a batch would last you about 4 to 5 portions (or more?). I consider the time put into it well worth it. I tend to saute the veg i'm using then add water & stock to boil until cooked finally use a blender though not took much as I like real veg lumps. Not that time consuming. Make some at the weekend & thats your supply for the week.
    Back on the trains again!

Definately worth it! (see above). Also a lot cheaper!

I completely agree OP - although I don't eat Chicken Soup (not tinned anyway :)) I've found the only cream of tomato I like is Heinz. And I've tried pretty much every other one going (in a effort to be mse!) So, if I see it at a bargain price, I really stock up - the last lot I got from Cooltrader and think (it was so long ago, probably over 6 months ago!) that they had a "managers special" of 4 for £1. I've not been in there lately, so I don't know what their current offers are - but it's worth having a look :D

Heinz Tomato Soup (can't vouch for the chicken one) has a very specific flavour though - one which you would struggle to recreate. I guess when it comes to it if that's what the OP really likes and wants it is better to buy the Heinz one or find similar alternatives.

I really like Heinz chicken soup as well, the Crosse and Blackwell one tastes just the same. It's on offer at 50p a tin in Morrisons.

Poundland has the 800g cans of Heinz cream of tomato and cream of chicken for £1 and 2 for £1 on the smaller cans including big soups but some are only 290g !

I make soup from scratch a lot, last night we had apple and celeriac soup. I find Heinz cream of tomato too sweet for me but I have diabetes and avoid sugar like the plague. OH loves the Sainsbury's SO organic tomato and basil tinned soup as much as the Heinz organic cream of tomato.

Soups don't have to be perfectly smoooth unless that's your preference.
  • to make a quick soup. I use 250ml passata, 1/4 chicken stock cube, 150ml water, 1 level tsp sugar, heat until boiling remove from heat add 1tbsp cream. salt & pepper to taste
 Wisdom doesn't necessarily come with age.
Sometimes age just shows up all by itself ;)

In the end, it's not the years in your life
that count....it's the life in your years :D

Am I the only one that finds Heinz Cream of Tomato soup bland?

You can get a better tasting soup for less with getting a pack of value pasata from the supermarkets or Lidl's or Aldi's own, a couple of tomatoes and some basil. Blitz them in a blender for a soup which, not only is cheaper but better for you.
