Hi, I have lurked on your thread from time to time, (having moved away from beautiful Dorset), good to see you back, I am sure that you will soon pick up the threads again and that you will get lots of encouragement. just keep on doing what you were doing, you will get there. BUT, I would say, try and forget "the Joneses". Early December last year one of my family, aged 50, with a wife and 3 children to support was taken desperately ill, he has recovered to a good degree, and although we knew it before, it certainly brought to the front of our minds (large supportive family), that all that matters is family, friends, food on the table, a bit of warmth and warm clothes (however shabby).
Good luck, you will get there, you can do it.:DThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
Hi steph - Im quite new to mse - but have an idea for you...
Looking at your soa on page 1 - you have an enormous amount of equity in your home.
As you have cut up the ccards / genuinely stopped any further loans, wouldnt it be easier for you to add the amount onto your mortgage (which are at all-time low rates) sorry if someone has suggested this already?
good luck with it all btw! -0 -
Steph - so glad you were abel to cover the mortgage. least you wont incur the fees of being late so take that as positive.
i remeber you taking the lambs in. think of the lovely chops. can you sell any of the meat?
hope you've had fun geocachingx

Evening everyone,
Hope everyone has had a better day than me.....I have reduced my Happy pills down to half and I feel like I spent the whole day chasing my tail. Three unexpected visitors arrived individually through the day which sent me into a spin, I just feel like all I managed to achieve today was emptying the dishwasher THREE times, abit of a tidy up and then chasing children all day.
Then hubby comes home, eats dinner then promptly goes out again, (he likes to go round the local farmers fields shooting rabbits & birds) which to me just equals a really good excuse to get out of kids bedtime routines!!!!.
One good thing was today was a NSD :T. Going to brave Lidl tomorrow, I don't need to do a full shop, but I have some essentials like toilet roll and coffee to get and thought I would try my luck in Lidl. Need to get back into the MSE way of living.
Feel quite down, so will get kids to bed then chill out with my Kindle and have an early night.
Thanks for all your replies +
Maddiemay = You are correct about the Jones thing - Just got to keep reminding myself
Atomix - Its a good idea about the mortgage and I would love to, but I have missed too many payments of the last year, and even though I am up to date with my payments, I doubt very much that they would agree to lend me any more money.
LL - Yes I keep reminding myself that I love roast lamb
AW - Its great to see your back, will catch up on your diary soon xxx0 -
hope your early night helped you feel a bit better today lovely

but something nice for the pot, no? I'd love to have somebody bring home a few rabbits . . . but maybe not every night, and not at the expense of other chores maybe.
Hope today goes better for you getting on top of things.

Hi all,
I went shopping today, couldn't really afford it but had essentials I HAD to get in.
I decided to go to Lidl and to our local cash & carry. I decided to try and get cheap bulk stuff (Not meat). I have listed what I bought below please let me know if you think I have over spent on anything.
I am kind of hoping that by buying bulk in things like toilet roll and washing powder then I won't feel like I am constantly running out of stuff and having to spend more money.
I am still using an egg cup to measure out my washing powder so 6.8 kg's should last me FOREVER :rotfl:
Lenor Conc Spring Fresh 5 Litres 12.99 MVF
Toilet Tissue 24 Rolls 3.23 BOOKER
D/Washer Tabs 5in1 lemon 120 Tabs ( 8 x 15tabs) 6.47 BOOKER
Buffet Ham 500g 3.69 Booker
Silver Spoon Caster Sugar 2kg 2.99 Booker
Apple & Black Squash 5 Litres 4.79 Booker
Bold Washing Pwder 85 wash / 6.8kg 13.19 BOOKER
Plain Flour 3kg 2.45 BOOKER
Self Raising Flour 3kg 2.45 BOOKER
Strong Bread Flour 500g .79p Lidl
Sunflower oil 1 litre 1.29 Lidl
Nescafe Gold Blend 200g 3.99 Lidl
Karma - No unfortunately hubby doesn't bring anything home, he isn't a very good shot yet.0 -
I am totally useless at remembering how much things cost, but some of those prices look good to me and as you live in a rural area fewer trips out to the shops must be a big consideration now that fuel is so expensive. Just the 2 of us in this household, but I still like to have a really good stock of regularly used items, buy nearly everything when on offer and from Approved Foods, only didly little supermarkets here and 50+ mile round trip to the big ones, so just call into them when on a trip out somewhere.
I don't really meal plan, but usually have an idea of what we will eat for the week from stores and freezer (much easier being just 2 of course). I am sure the lamb will be delicious and they had good lives and weren't carted on a couple of laps of the country before being slaughtered and the meat arriving in the shops (one of my hobby horse things!!)The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. Hi Maddiemay,
Where did you used to live in Dorset?. We are in North Dorset. Its a 20 mile round trip to any supermarket that is competitive. I have a small local produce supermarket 2 miles away but its VERY expensive.
I am hoping the bulk buying will prove worth the petrol to get into town. Fingers Crossed.
I bought a large block of cheese also from Bookers. It was £24 for 5kg. I have cut it into 10 portions each weighing 500g.
I have figured that each portion has cost me £2.40.
In Tesco's where I normally get my cheese, Tesco's own Mature cheddar is £8 per kilo. So that block would have cost me £40 in Tesco. Quite a saving.....
I have frozen 8 of the blocks, fingers crossed it is still nice once defrosted.
I am also going to check prices of other things I have bought against Tesco, JUST to check I am not accidentally over spending.
I need to start meal planning again because we have eaten an awful lot of pork and ham this week as its all I have left in the freezer, I think we are slightly overdosing0
