  • Hi Wannabe & ClearmyDebts,

    Thanks for your well wishes.

Wow I have been so ill, Since Wednesday night, I have had the worst stomach cramps and all the lovely extras you usually get with a stomach bug, of which I won't go into detail :(.

I am feeling slightly more human today, Still really weak with the odd stomach pain, but have managed to do a few extra jobs so must be on the mend.

Bank balance and spreadsheet have just about been kept up to date, and haven't overspent on anything.

I got accepted for the credit card with a 2k limit. I asked for 3k but to get that they want my last three months bank statements. Not sure it is a good idea to push for the extra 1k as my bank statements are NOT a pretty picture and it might put them off all together.

The 2k kind of gets us out of the overdraft, at certain points in the month, we will still dip our toes into it slightly but not too bad.

I got a statement from the bank of all my bank charges in the last year. If you add overdraft interest, emergency overdraft access and bounced transactions, I paid the bank £662 in charges :eek::eek::eek:.

Just that in itself convinces me that it will be much better to get the lion share of the overdraft put on a low interest credit card, with a direct debit set up.

Think I might call them up next week and just check they actually will do a balance transfer to a bank account.
I know my Virgin card allows it, so worst comes to the worst I can balance transfer to Virgin and then pay into my bank from Virgin. But would rather not have the run around and the transfer fees from Virgin.

Wow hope that all makes sense.

Off for another sit down now. See you soon.
  • Glad you are feeling a bit better. Take care of yourself Xx

  • I'm Back :j:j:j:j

Yay its the first day since last Wednesday that I have felt human.

Thanks PLMBL and Fifty for your kind words.

Not too much to report really, got to send off the forms to the Credit card company, been pretty much sticking to my budget.

We re-did our wills last week as they had some gaping holes in them and as we had sorted out all our insurance policies, I wanted to get that in order as well. Unfortunately that has cost us £250 but I see it as laying the foundations of our family security.

Lambs are all fine and growing well, I am slowly getting use to the un-sociable hours, although it did'nt help feeling so ill the past few days.

Ok off now to catch up with everyones diaries, I just could'nt face it when I felt ill.x
  • Glad to hear you are feeling better Steph, there's so many nasty bugs around at the moment.

You have just reminded me that we need to sort out our wills . They are so out of date. I just don't fancy paying for them right now. It will have to wait a little longer.

Sounds like you are still doing well on the debt busting. Keep Going ! x

  • Hi Pinot.

I wanted our wills changed so that if, say, I die first. Then my half of the estate will go into trust for the children. It won't go to hubby. He can stay in the house etc etc, but if he re-marries then the money grabbing new wife and children will only get half of hubbies house etc :rotfl:.

I know this sounds terrible, but I have seen it happen so many times and really don't want it to happen to my children.
I have also seen how the widower got so annoyed with his children not accepting his new wife, that he wrote them completely out of the will .

We have also set up who will be the carers of our children if we both died at the same time and a set amount of goodwill money to be paid to them as a thank you.

Its nice to feel that we are all set up as much as we can be financially and our wills are in place.

The only thing we do not have is pensions. :o

My only hope is to sort out our debt and start abit of a savings fund.

Are we the only ones that do not have one?. It sometimes feels like we are.

Oh well, you can only do so much with how much money you have.
  • Little update.

Well, hubby has gone off to buy his shotgun. He has saved £881 and has gone off to blow it on a stick of metal & wood :(;)

Will be glad when he has got it and its all dealt with. It has been such an annoyance to me. He has been working so many after work jobs to achieve this money. In a way this is good as he has managed to achieve something he wants without it impacting the budget. BUT........He never does this many after work jobs usually, I have made the odd comment that surely he will be happy to do any extra jobs that come in from now on ...won't he...to help combat the debt.

Gosh I do sound like a moaning old wife don't I. Its just sometimes I feel like I am paddling upstream with hubby and bills.

Keep smiling. He won't dare start wanting anything for a long while after this so hopefully it is all done now and we can start using his extra earnings to sort out the debt. :T
  • Hi Steph.

    1. I can confirm I feel a LOT mentally better off for having cleared our two large overdrafts, even if it did mean keeping some credit card debt.
    2. In 20 years of working I have spent around 12 of that, half of it part-time wages, paying into a pension. DH only has about 2 years of contributions. We too are bricking it!
    3. I don't blame you for being a bit resentful about the shotgun. With hindsight it might have been an idea for you to agree to it on the proviso that for every pound he saved, he contributed the equivalent to the debt
    4. We don't have wills either - how much do they cost to make?

    Keep on thinking positive xx

Hope DH is happy with his metal and wood !!! I really hope he does extra jobs to help you out too.

    Hope your ok xx

    Morning Steph!

Glad you are feeling better, it's horrible being ill, especially when you have so much work to be getting on with :o

Good news on getting your will sorted though, aside from the cost of it, it's good to get it done. Me and DH don't have a will, or pension :o I might add that to my 'list of things I should get round to at some point' :rotfl:

How are the little lambs doing now? Hopefully not causing you too much trouble :)
Can't think of anything smart to put here...
