its a microsoft Word file.
so i just go to the properties on the file and remove all the above wording and just put 116.doc and it will open?
Im work at present so cannot try it now.
If you know that it is a Word file, yes rename it as above as it should only have one file name extension. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

im struggling
Ive right clicked the word file and gone into properties ive delited the file name and renamed it with .doc but it still opens the same as before. All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0 -
The file is possibly corrupt. Why don't you just buy a caddy and recover the files from the original hard drive? A cheap USB caddy costs less than a tenner on ebay. You are using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

how do you know that is a word file, or THE file you are looking for, it could be anything
as already suggested, if you no longer have the original pc, a usb caddy is the way forward, it would have been cheaper than isobuster
rules of backups, check them, do more than one, on different media!!

Well It must be a word file cause I made it. They are my kids cv's and some important notes I have made.
So how would a usb caddy solve the issue. All these files mp3 and jpegs are now on my desk top, ive extracted them all using isobuster.
All I need to do now is get the word files back to normal so I can read themAll the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0 -
Then the extraction process has corrupted the Word files (or the one you have tried to open). Is there the same issue with all the Word files, because the file naming appears to have gone haywire, with multiple suffixes?
Assuming that the original files on the old drive are OK, you simply copy them from the old drive to the new PC by means of the caddy. Which was what you shoud have done to start with rather than wasting £25.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I understand that. The old hard drive is sat here its not in any pc. So I hopeful that they are ok on there. So basically how would I get them from the HD which isn't in any pc ay the moment? All the big powers they've silenced me. Put the old drive into a suitable USB caddy. PATA/IDE or SATA, depending on the type of drive. For a desktop drive you need a 3.5" caddy, for a laptop a 2.5" drive.
Plug caddy into a USB port on your new machine and it will be recognised as an external drive. Copy over the required files. That's it.
The old drive can then be used as the backup that you failed to have before. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
ok I think this is the drive (I have around 5 from different pc's)
