dvd+r and hard drive help

Ok. I have some important files that I put onto dvd-r from a previous computer. The next pc I had I put the dvd-r into the drive but I got a message regarding formatting the disc. I cannot remember exactly what happened but I guess I pressed a 'yes' to the formatting option the pressed cancel.
The disc is just a regular Kodak DVD+R 4.7 gig 120 min, however on the disc there is the letters RW.
The info on the dvd is really important my kids cv's plus a book I am writing.
When I insert the disc into this new pc the drive does not locate any info on the disc, it seems to 'work' a long time trying to find any info.
I have tried 'ISOBUSTER' but again im not getting any thing.
My question is that all this info is on a hard drive that I took out of the old pc. How can I get this info from the old hard drive as it must all be in there? Is is as simple as taking a hard drive from another pc and exchanging it with this one. Will the pc boot up so I can retrieve the info?
Any help please.

First question, do you know what you are doing? I dont mean it as an insult but if your new computer is big enough, you can change the jumper settings on the old hard drive to slave and plug it into the new computer and you *should* gain access to the drive to take the information off it.
If all this is like reading Japanese then you may need to find a tech savvy friend or take it to a shop.
The main thing is that you still have the data on your old hard drive and next time you insert a CD that has RW written on it, dont format it!!0 -
Or you could just buy the drive enclosure yes.0

I may have found the data using isobuster. However I need to pay for it before I can extract the info if indeed it works.

I was thinking of putting the hard drive into an old Dell I have in the attic and trying to boot it up. I'm not messing with this brand new pc.All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0 -

It may or may not boot, all the drivers will be wrong and may not work.
Is the drive PATA or SATA, does the Dell have the correct connector?
If the dell has a HD already, you could install the other HD as a slave (plug it in to a different connector to the main HD), it will then boot up and you can access the HD0 -

The recovered file name is shown as 116.ppt.mdb.xls.doc
Is this file a powerpoint file, an access file, an excel file or a word file?
Rename the recovered file e.g. 116.doc and then open it. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Are you attempting to open the recovered file from within Word, or just by double clicking it? Try both methods. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
