Samsung Galaxy S3 - received with broken seal

Hi, I received my Samsung GS3 (on contract) from three mobile today and the seal on the box has been opened ! The sticker reads that if the seal is broken/tampered with I should not accept it. Obviously the courier guy is long gone by the time I discovered this. I phoned three for an immediate replacement but they couldn't offer any explanation as to why the seal was broken.

Has anyone experienced this with the GS3 or any other phone from three ?

Cheers

  • My Note 2 turned up with one seal broken. But the phone was still rapped and sealed.

I guess it got broken in transit...So I did not bother to return.

Could the box seal have been broken to put the sim card in the box maybe?
    Not ideal - I know...just a suggestion.
Is the phone stil in the selophane wrap, as I don't think that you can get that wrap back on properly if the phone has been opened already etc.
  • Strange, my GS3 had the protector screens intact but they were misaligned. It just doesn't seem right with me. Three have no reason to break the seal since the sim card and contract related bumf is outside the box !
  • The phone has no cellophane wrap, just two sticky plastic protectors, front and back.

Sim card / contract info was outside the box. From the looks of it everything in the GS3 box is samsung only, three haven't added anything.

It could be a returned phone

I could have guessed this was 3-mobile! In all the handsets I ended up with from them, all but one had the tab torn or not on at all, the only one intact was a refurbished model.

I wouldn't trust them with a barge-pole to be honest, it worried you enough to post on here so you already have a question mark over it at the back of your mind yet your paying the same either way. If you do get problems, 3 are not always the most helpful company to use and don't tend to have speedy results with things like repairs and so on.

Unless that's just my own experience (over 5 years, 3 contracts, 4 handsets and too many faults and errors to number).

The very same thing happened to me earlier this week. Received an S3 from Vodafone with the seal broken and fingerprints all over the handset. Called Vodafone and got a replacement the next day.
Can only assume it was a previously returned handset.
  • Surely the service provider has to tell you if the phone you are paying for is a return. I can't believe this really, they shouldn't be allowed to sell a return as a new product.

I'm accepting nothing less than a new and untouched S3 considering i'm committing to a 24 month deal !

New phone is expected today and I'm crossing my fingers it's sealed.
  • No one should accept it. They should phone up immediately and refuse to commence the contract based on the breach of supplying a false product. We don't get away with it in the business world, why should the consumer world be any different?
  • Unbelievable !

Second phone received today with yet another opened seal.

This time the handset itself had no screen protectors and was inside a loose plastic bag. I called three to again explain the situation and they claim the handsets are sent directly from Samsung. I find this hard to believe considering there are "3 mobile" stickers on the box, receipts and shipping information !

Apparently they have noted the situation as 'escalated' on their system, are looking into it and I should definitely receive an unopened handset tomorrow.

Last chance for three, if I didn't have a good deal I would have cancelled today. A third broken seal will force me to cancel and look elsewhere. This has turned into a joke.
