My bargain basement 26 inch 4:3 CRT TV is on the blink after 15 years of use. What sort of a flat-screen is best to replace it? Probably around 32 inch would be best, a bit like this?

I won't be playing games on it, but might be interesting if I can play MPEG video pictures on it from a memory stick. Not essential though.

I will be plugging it into a Freeview digital recorder

How do I get someone to take the old one away without breaking my back, would most shops do this if I bargained with them? Trouble is the item is cheaper on Amazon, perhaps Comet are desperate?

    Freecycle or Freegle it.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

If you buy from John Lewis they will remove the old TV at the same time for a couple of quid - also JL include 5 year warranty in the price of the new TV
  • If I lived near you, I would have collected it, broken or not

Sell it on ebay, you won't get much though. Still a tenner in your pocket is better than paying someone to take it away.

Bit dishonest to sell a TV whose picture keeps distorting, even dodgy to give it away although its only a slight distort at the bottom. Surely no-one is interested in CRT 4:3 TVs now are they?

Went into Curry's and they take away the old TV. Perhaps, I could bargain for the on-line price with the end of month approaching?

It's probably a simple fault to fix for anyone who knows. I bet it would cost pennies. Yes, people still want a cheap TV.

Not quite, don't you mean take away 3 extra small items for price of 1 bulky item like this? It would cost me £37.20
