Beware of 3 mobile fraud Galaxy Note 2 upgrade
Options
Yesterday my phone was upgraded without permission. 3 have kindly allowed someone to access my account and have sent out a new Galaxy note 2 to a completely unrelated address in East London. I phoned 3 and told them that it was fraudulent and they said they would send details on to the investigations team .
Today received a text asking when we would like delivery so we deferred the delivery until tomorrow and then called 3 again. Asked them why this was not stopped yesterday and they basically said you won't get charged so don't worry. I had to rant to get them to phone the courier and stop delivery.
I have no idea what one of these phones cost but obviously we all must pay them far too much if they are quite willing to give these away. The upgrade would have cost £40 a month. I have contacted the 3 executive office but they have yet to come back to me. It seems that this is not an isolated problem as I know of at least one other case in the last week with the exact same upgrade being requested to a random different address in East London. So if you get a text from 3 on your phone ignore at your peril as this seems like the only notifications you will get.

so are you saying that
1. someone hacked your online account because your password was not strong enough if so i would suggest changing all your passwords e.g email bank etc etc. the worst problem is most people use 3 standard passwords alot use 1 and when people get it there into your whole life.
and best way of making sure your password is safer is use a capital in there making sure alpha nurmeic.
also hope your pc hasn't been hacked hope you have some anti-malware on there!
or
2. more seriously they did over the phone and got past security there.
on a side note the galaxy note 2 is £450-£500 depending where you shop.0 -
Someone phoned up and ordered it online and had it sent to a completely random address. Have also now phoned the Met Police who say that the crime has not been committed against me but against 3 mobile so even though they have the address this phone should have gone to they will not do anything unless 3 mobile make a complaint!0

As far as I'm aware, no crime actually takes place until they take receipt of the goods.
It's a similar situation to you walking into a shop, and sticking an item up your jumper to hide it etc. Although the intention to steal is there, you could walk around that shop all day long with the item hidden on your person, however you don't actually commit the crime until you attempt to leave the store without paying.
I would guess that Three's fraud team would jump into action (although "Jump into Action" might be being generous!) once the delivery/handover takes place.0 -
Ah but they ordered the goods under my contract so fraud surely. Well that's what I thought but apparently not as I am only the informant and not the victim. I think the fact that 3 did nothing to stop this delivery going out last night means they are not that worried about the loss.0

Neither: inside job - staffer trawling accounts looking to see which ones are good to upgrade and then raising orders after changing the address.0 -
Same thing happened to my daughter a few months back, she received a text from 3 thanking her for the upgrade and advising her the iphone 4s will be delivered the next day to an address in east London which was in a block of flats (Googled Earthed it),so my daughter advised them that it was not her as she was waiting for the iphone 5 and then would upgrade her phone they then stopped this going through, but the most worrying thing was that we changed the password and requested that it would needed to be spelled out,so we put this to the test with them out of the 4 times we rang them not once were we asked to spell the password and on 2 occasions we weren't even asked for one.
I did advise them that this was probably an inside job with the information they had to get the upgrade, because in there words it was her dad that did the upgrade on her behalf.0 -
It does seem to point to someone having access to the system as how could they possibly know out of the thousands of accounts which were available to upgrade. But if this is an employee problem its very scary that they have access to personal information about all the 3 mobile customers. I am going to write and ask them for the recording of the call to upgrade and then cancel the contract as have lost faith in their security.0

Update :
I have now tried to cancel the above account and 3 mobile are saying I cannot as the case is with fraud department. Tried to do it through executive office but I have to wait for call back from them as well. Does anyone know how I can make them cancel it today as do not want to have to wait 30 days from whenever they decide to look into and its pretty cut and dried anyway seeing as they got the phone back after I made them phone the courier.0 -
Very interesting - my account was also fraudulently upgraded to a Galaxy note last week to an address in East London / Essex border.....more than a co-incidence I would say. Managed to stop the delivery by calling DPD as it was already loaded on the van but 3 were of no help at all until I contacted the Exec team.......who to be fair have sorted quickly. My contract was eligible for upgrade on that exact date and no-one else other than 3 could have known that.....as it's not on any paperwork / emails. Doubt they will do anything to stop the perpetrators, but needless to say I have left 3 and will never go back after the experience with Mumbai.0
