Very High Gas Bill

Hi, this is my first time here. I'm just very confused and angered over my final gas bill (we have moved now) it's a bill for the previous property. We're with EDF, and for 11 months we were billed...
24 Dec 2011 - 1st Nov 2012
£849.14
In the first couple of months of moving in, we did use the heating a bit more. But for around 6 months we hardly used the heating if I remember correctly. Just the gas cooker we used.
I'm new to bills etc so the bill could be correct, but its a two bedroom cottage house, it just seems insane. I know gas and electricity is now getting more expensive.
I can supply you with more details, our standing charge is 314 days @ 22.00p
Regards,
Juliet

Welcome to the forum. A meter, unless successfully challenged for inaccuracy, is proof positive of consumption.
To get meaningful help here you need to post the *exact* dates and readings from your bill.0 -

Hi, how was the meter reading taken on 24 Dec 2011 when you moved in, did you take it and pass on to your supplier, did someone else take it, perhaps they relied on the final reading from the outgoing tenant, or did no one.
I ask because if that initial reading was incorrect then the bill could be inflated.
Edit: Now seen yourlatest post. Did you take the "C" reading on 24 Dec.
Also you are being billed for an imperial meter, make sure that is the type of meter you have, it will have cu ft on it. If it has m3 on it then you are being overcharged.0 -

How do I find out what type of meter it was, now that we have moved0 -

The only way would be to go back and look:eek: but who took the initial reading?
Edit: but looking at your meter readings, they are 4 digits so most likely it is an imperial meter, I think. But it is important you say who took the first reading.0 -
Can't really go back there to be honest, can't I just phone EDF and ask them, and that was my reading.0

I have found a reading for gas which I took just before moving out, and that is 6836 8.
The 8 was the red number, does this help?0 -

On the first bill the April 12 reading was 6699 but on the second bill the 17 April reading was 5687, it appears to have gone down, and so you are being charged for that gas twice?
For the April to July period you used 592 units = 18648 kwh in the summer, no way.
Edit: oh jalexa you beat me to it!0 -
