Very High Gas Bill
Comments
-
We worked out and it looks like they read a wrong gas meter from the 17th April onwards, the only thing we know is that the original customer reading if when we moved in is right, and the end customer reading from when we moved out is right. So this means we have used 366 units in total, how does kwh split affect out bill at all, with the 366 units0
-
Well 366 units = 11529kwh, times 3.866p = £445 + VAT = £467
Plus your standing charge £69 + VAT = £72
So £539.
PS just going off to check my maths0 -

Can I just ask how you work the kwh, as i will be phoning them and have them try and dispute it. Thank you0 -

I think you are saying the bill is wrong. Firstly regarding "split" that is just poor bill wording, "split" is not relevant to a standing charge tariff. For an imperial meter multiply the meter usage by 32, so about 10,000 kWhrs, a good bit below average.
While I commend "focus" on getting an accurate bill, the bill is so flawed that I strongly recommend a formal complaint in writing or by email.
The grounds of the complaint would be that bill is structurally flawed to a truly incompetent extent.
In resolution you should specifically require the following:
1. the incorrect bill to be replaced with an accurate bill.
2. an explanation how it was possible for such a structurally flawed bill to be issued
3. an apology
4. an ex-gratia D&I award commensurate with the distress caused.
If Edf fail on any of the above (and you are the sole judge on D&I adequacy) you would be entitled to refer the matter to the Energy Ombudsman which would be cost-free to you but would incur Edf a referral case fee of circa £350.0 -
There is a formula to follow, this is normally shown on your bills.
However for an imperial meter a quick way is to multiply the metered units by 31.5.0 -
So you all agree that we have been shafted by EDF? I'm so angry and upset right now0

However I cannot see how their computer allowed a lower meter reading than the previous one to be used. Normally the computer would think it had "gone round the clock" and register a huge amount which should trigger human intervention.0 -
Well thank you all very much, (how do I use the thank option) we are now emailing a formal complaint, any tips? We cannot thank you enough.0

Just follow my points in post #15 and lay on your "I'm so angry and upset right now" as thick as you like:D.
If you complain by email be wary about discussing the issue by phone (an attempt will be made).
(for thanks you just click on the "thanks" button)0 -
