the last 2 years my iphone bill was £40 average. Then I had an iphone 5 in october. My first bill was £33 and I was chuffed. My bill for November is...wait for it...£11497.33 ! spoke to customer services and they say I have used internet excessively! I cant even find the words for how I feel. Have cancelled my debit with them now lets see0

Please ask for a data breakdown. I did this and got one eventually after a lot of chasing! When I looked at it my phone was apparently downloading things in the middle of the night! They credited my account with £105 so I argued some more and I got another £80. I have sent another arguing email asking them to refund all of it. Looking at the data charges they are definitely wrong. One such session in the middle of the night I was charged £25 for, when I was sleeping...... There is loads of information about people having the same problem all over the net. My advice is argue and don't give up!! Good luck x0 -

Just because you weren't up in the middle of the night, doesn't mean the data wasn't used. Updates etc happen at all times of the day and night.
Glad you got some credits though!0 -
Does anyone know how to stop these updates? Over the last month or so my husband's Orange phone keeps getting these , unwanted, data updates and they have so far this month sent him over his data allowance and cost him quite a bit of cash we don't have this time of year. It didn't happen before last month but suddenly it's just started. Is there a simple way to stop it?0

Turn off automatic updates in your phone settings
Thanks, I don't know my husbands phone settings but, hopefully, he can find it.
The weird thing is though he has had this phone for over a year, done nothing to change the settings, and it has only had this 'automatic updates' problem in the last few weeks. He has never once gone over his monthly data allowance, as he doesn't use it much, before this month.0 -
It's shocking how some people are eager to blame customers for everything and to defend the networks that charge customers whatever amounts they want, but CBA to provide any proofs and explanations.
So, what's your theory on how and why the customer with 1Gb allowance and 400Mb usual usage was able to suddenly use the full 1Gb allowance and extra £300 worth of data?
My theory is that it's either Orange's error or Apple's fault.0 -

which is fine in theory if the apps are released by Orange or Apple.
In most cases its third party apps that cause the data consumption. Now the majority of apps come with a warning when installed, yet the user still pleads ignorance.
IMO the problem is not necessarily with Apple or Orange, but the latter is very much responsible for the frankly downright criminal excess data rate charges.0 -
I have recently posted about a £300 data charge on my recent bill. this was for overseas use. Orange said it was downloading stuff when it was switched off. apparently it is not good enough just to turn it off. They will not refund any of the charges so I doubt they will in your case.
PS I am not 'too thick' to use my phone - just a little naive when it comes to data charges - believe me, I am not now. I plan to protest in the Orange shop and see how far thats get me in the morning.0
