Excessive data charges on Orange

Has anyone else been charged a fortune for excessive data charges on Orange? Did you manage to do anything about it? I have had my Iphone 4S for a year now and have never gone over my allowance, in fact I usually only use around 400MB of my 1GB allowance. This month I had a £313 phone bill with excessive data charges. I have asked Orange for a print out of the alleged data usage twice now, both times they said they would send it and it would be with me in a couple of days. I never received it. Yesterday someone told me they don't normally send that kind of information out but that she would ask the original person I spoke to contact me about it. Surprise surprise I have heard nothing. They have the worst customer service ever. Surely they can't expect me to pay £300 odd when I don't even know what it's for. I have now paid £40 of it which is what I normally pay and just not paid for the bit I am disputing.
Any help gratefully received........

I can't help with the bill, but did you by chance download iOS6 to an iphone via 3g, and not a wifi connection?"It's official, MSE's harbouring total fruitcakes">^..^<0

iOS6 was around 600mb wasn't it? Doubt that would be the cause of such a hefty bill0

They did say it might be because of that, but I argued the point because I was at home at the time where I have got wifi. They said just because I was in a wifi area it doesn't mean it would have switched over to wifi. Seems strange though that I haven't had this problem before and until I get the breakdown that they said they have sent I can't check

Do search on the net. Seems to a problem with IO6 and high data charges.
Some people are suggesting that data is being downloaded via mobile data even when WIFI is being shown as connected.
If you got the phone via orange then you may want to argue the point with them.
Would also consider turning off Mobile Data on your phone untill matter is sorted.0 -
You're not using the Deezer app. as a swappable are you?
If you are, they're aware of a problem with that app. whereby the usage is coming out of your allowance rather than it not etc.0 -
No not using the deezer app. I only really use my phone for facebook and ebay so seems very excessive. I shall continue to argue the point. Just wish they would listen and stop fobbing me off. Orange customer services are not at all helpful

If you used the data on their network, fobbing you off would be pointless - they'd require to be paid for the data plan (or over use). If IOS6 prevented WIFi from handling the connection, this would not mitigate the data transfer cost as this has nothing to do with the network.
I recall there has been an IOS6 update to address this issue but the network can point to this having nothing to do with them or their network infrastructure/operation.0 -
The problem with the iOS6 update is if it drops connection it doesn't start off from where it failed, it starts again...
So if it gets 200mb in, fails and then downloads the second time the usage would be 800, not 600mb.
So many people have been 'done' by this its not even funny. I personally think update over network shouldn't be possible, unreasonable stress on the network infrastructure to be honest...0 -

To be honest if a firmaware fails to download right I don't want it to "try again" from where it stopped, I want to be sure the file is right. It may continue but fail checksumming and I'd rather try again than risk a bad flash, although yes it will cost more in data.
I think the iPhone can be set to only download updates over WiFi, certainly if you try downling a big app it says use WiFi.
Oranges data network capacity and reliability is another thing entirely...0 -
I believe Orange now charge £1 per day once you have exceeded your data on newer plans... Why not politely ask if they would do this for you as well. They technically don't have to but it is worth asking for and could cut your excess charge down to under £30.0
