Kevano,
I was reading your post and that of others here. I did wonder when you described the fault, whether it was a Samsung TV. Apparently many of Samsung's TV's had this inherent fault, which is down to substandard capacitors in the Power Supply circuit. I have heard of two units in the past six months which both failed with the same fault.
Samsung sent an Engineer round in one case, who replaced the capacitors in the TV for free, and once again it was back up and running. In the second case, which was one of my friends, they knew a man.......who destroyed the TV trying to fix it! Proof if ever it were needed, sometimes you wish you knew someone else!
If anyone else has the same issue with a Samsung TV, contact the manufacturer in the first instance. If then you get no joy, the components can be purchased for less than £10, and if you can find a friendly Engineer locally, the job should take them less than an hour to do all in.

Thanks Simon.
They have arranged for Martin Dawes to come and fit a new part tomorrow. He assessed it over the phone and said he's ordered something like a new power circuit board or something.
Will let you know if it's fixed tomorrow...0 -
If your handy with a soldering iron, then the caps could be bought for about £4 - £5. Normally 4 caps that go wrongMansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0

Yes, you are right, Comet would return it to Samsung. That's how this is meant to work in reality.
Yes, you are also right in that if it goes to Comet it might not be seen again and because of these special circumstances concerning Comet it is far better to to have Samsung take ownership if the problem directly.
The fact that sheds like Comet, amongst others, dealt/deal so poorly with situations like this, whether solvent or not, is one of the reasons for their demise.
Even if you can get them to accept responsibility they invariably mishandle it in some way."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Ah well now that's another matter really. Nevertheless, in the first instance it is they who one would look to in order to put things right.0 -
