I have never heard this before! OH was checking his monthly bill- usually around £7- cheap handset and deal. They have bumped it up to £14, saying they now charge for notifying you that an e-mail has been sent! Is this illegal? It seems ridiculous! I think he's fed up of their underhand dealings and will cancel his DD and move to Tesco mobile. Anyone else heard of this? I'd love Martin to investigate this, but don't know who to contact. Any help gratefully received. Thanks MSEers!

Eh? That's utter b0ll0cks...I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0

Cancelling the DD doesn't cancel the contract and he will still be liable for any bills until he actually cancels it with Orange.0

You sure they didn't say text delivery reports?
There's no such thing as a charge for sending emails, they're included in your data bundle (he does have a data bundle on his acc if he's sending email from the phone?).0 -
if you're using orange own email app, then yes it has a charge after the 1st month is a freeby.
there are plenty of other means to collect your mail.0 -
When you say about emailing, do you mean that he has been using it to email? If so, is it possible he's on a tariff that doesn't include data?
If you give us more details of what the bill actually says then I may be able to shed some light!0 -
Sorry, I meant they are charging him to notifying him that a text message has been sent, and I know that this is ridiculous!0

I thought this text receiot charge had been around for quite a few years now?
Simple to avoid...just switch the feature off.0 -

They've charged for delivery reports for some years and the tariffs list the charge?0
