  • Even people with absolutely no cooking-skills should be able to make half-decent soup the conventional way. All that is need are some decent ingredients, a largeish saucepan and some working taste-buds.

A gadget to make soup sounds like a profoundly useless waste of money to me.

I use a pressure cooker to shorten the time especially if I'm using a broth mix or pulses. You'd get more use out of a pressure cooker and a blender (stick or Jug) to be honest.
  • Another vote for a big pan here. My OH prefers his soup chunky, so there's really no need for the stick blender either...

It only take 20 - 30 minutes (if you're going to blend it all anyway, cut all the veg small, it cooks much quicker).

I have made soup every day this week, five different soups. All done in a pan and zapped with a stick blender. No other gadgets required.

I use a big pan and a masher - i prefer slightly chunky soup.

I'm still using the supermarket value brand blender I got for a fiver 6 years ago :D
A 'Soup Maker' just sounds like a marketing ploy to part you from your cash unnecessarily :)

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, if so feel free to move.

I am thinking about a soup maker, what's peoples thoughts? Also does anyone know of discount codes etc around or where's cheapest/best to get one. Many thanks

What's wrong with a pan, a spoon, a knife and a masher? Been making soup with these for years - as taught by my gran who used them for decades before.

I just made butternut squash and apple soup - using a big pot and a potato masher. v nice :)

I'm not sure how a soup maker would work better then above method.

Bet its also much harder to clean.

  • Hmmm - I can see the attraction, if you're not a confident cook. And years ago, I'd probably have bought one, and loved it & used it for a bit, and then it would have stayed at the back of the cupboard for years, gathering dust, until I finally gave it away.

For some time now I've been divesting myself of kitchen gadgets, as it's turned out to be easier, quicker or just better to do things by hand as I've got more experienced; the two electrical gadgets I wouldn't give away are my stick blender & my bread maker. I agree with everyone above; save your money & counter space, invest in good saucepans, sharp knives & a decent stick blender, and eventually you'll wonder why you ever thought you needed a machine specifically to make something so simple.
