What you don't see on-line

It really annoys me, that when you log onto you savings accounts on-line the interest rate is not shown.
Plus it doesn't show when the interest is paid out.
It's like some secret society and getting the information isn't always easy.
Grrr!!

Name and shame!
Nationwide do now and send an annual statement showing how much you have in the account, what the rate is and when the interest is paid.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Ah, the heady days of 3.10%0 -
The thisismoney website is currently running a campaign for the rate to be displayed online, and are also naming and shaming those that don't provide the information:
http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/saving/article-2221964/Victory-savers-Nationwide-comes-clean-rates-online.html
Those which refuse to display the rate online from the article are:
HSBC
Barclays
NatWest
Coventry BS
Tesco
Co-op
National Savings & Investments.I work as a Housing Benefit assessor, any advice given is for general information purposes only. It is not, and should not be construed as, financial or other professional advice.0 -
I wholeheartedly agree with this campaign, maybe Martin should mention it on TV sometime (hint hint). In my experience Banks & building societies tend to 'hide' the interest rates on another page (or lots of pages to make it even harder to find what you're looking for) . Whats more they don't always display the account type (e.g. Saver Plus Account) on the account summaries, so if your records are a bit poor it is difficult to reference the quoted rates to the account (there are usually loads of rates, including those of accounts no longer available).0

I agree with the o/ps sentiments. Another goody that does show your rate with the account (even the net rate) is Northern Rock now Virgin. One that annoys me is Derbyshire where you have to hunt around in the undergrowth to confirm your rate in a very un-intuitive manner.0

You are missing the point.
I am not saying the interest rates are not there SOMEWHERE I am say the interest rate is not shown (on mine anyway) when you go into `your account`.
By the same token we have changed our BT phone and broadband contract and they have sent 3 sheets of paper setting out our new contract but no where on there does it state our monthly payment or our usage allowance.
Thanks for all the other replies.0 -

Hi Andrea
Perhaps you could use your Monesavingexpert muscle to remind them once again.
I also find they sometimes call a certain product different names making it very confusing. e.g. ISA ISSUE 3 then perhaps Golden ISA 3 added to which all the names sound very similar.0 -

But some savings accounts do, including some bank accounts, eg:
Nationwide, on the other hand, don't show them directly, but do give you a link to find out the current interest rate for any account you hold with them (on the same page as your account), and email you if the rate changes.
You don't say who you are with, and its clearly not applicable to all.0
