Hey guys!,

I applied for the Aqua credit card back in March/April, and was declined due to limited credit history, today I received a generic email saying that it's time I re-applied, IF my circumstances have changed... Now since July I've had my secured credit, which is always paid balance in full each month, I've also had 1 three contract from March - June and Orange from May - Present (around £55 a month), all paid up every month. I have 1 CCJ (2009) and 4 defaults (2008/2009). I have been on the electoral roll for 6/7 months but have been at my current address since September 2011.

On Friday, I applied for the Aqua credit card (as I would like to maybe close the Cap1 card) and they came back with With the following

"Thank you for your application for an aqua Credit Card, which is now being processed" - 'We'll contact you within the next 10 working days'.

Now I don't expect anyone on here to tell the future as to whether I'll be accepted or not, BUT I would like to hear from anyone who has applied for an Aqua card and received the same response, or who have been in the same situation.

Thank you!

Would it make a difference that I had an account with them back in 2007, which was paid and settled (Closed)

Sounds like its been referred, rather than rejected or declined.

So it could go either way.

The 10 day delay means for some reason your application has to be processed manually. This usually means they weren't able to verify you electronically.
This often means absolutely nothing at all in terms of being accepted/declined.
It could simply mean that the electronic request to verify you failed because a server was down or there was a technical glitch.
It means nothing at all in terms of the success of your application, just means it didn't work electronically which could have happened for all sorts or unrelated technical reasons.
It's frustrating to wait I know but it means nothing.

Thanks Lisyloo!!... As long as they don't ask me to send my passport to them through the post then it will be OK
  • Have you tried Vanquis? I'm not sure there's much difference between that & Aqua if its a credit builder your after.

Don't ask about Vanquis.. Had one of their cards before (in 2007.. [Don't ask, I had a lot of cards back then; being 18!], was not used and settled a few months after opening it). and I re-applied end of last year and they told me that because I already had a closed account with them I couldn't re-apply. Weirdos !!

I personally chose other options from the list if possible (like Department of Work & Pensions paperwork), but if necessary the process is to get a certified copy done. Solicitors and Financial Advisors should be able to do this as well as the Post Office do it for a few £s (although I've heard of one company not accepting Post Office copies).
You are not expected to send originals through although in some cases (utility bills) you might not mind too much.

All my bank statements and phone bills are all on-line, not received anything from DWP for years!. I'm quiet nervous as to why they could not verify me electronically.

But presumably they will take my recent credit history into account, only if it's 6/7 months of history?

Yes, that sounds about right. I applied online a few weeks ago, remember seeing something like this, and then did manage to get approved a week or so after that and received a letter. Hang tight and keep your fingers crossed!

So I should hear back either way by middle of next week :)
