30 day notice period on mobile phone contracts
Options
I am with three mobile. My contract period has ended. Although apparently I have to provide 30 days notice for cancellation.
However, Is it fair that I am being charged for 30 days of a contract even though I have already ported my number to a new network and am not actually receiving any service from three anymore?
Is this something I can complain to ofcom and get a refund for. The lovely lady in the indian call center wasn't giving me any leverage when I was arguing with her.
Hell, I had to quote ofcom regs just to make her send me a pac code.
Can anybody help out? I imagine this complaint should be quite common.
Thanks very much.

Yes you do have to provide reasonable notice , It wouldn't be fair to be charged, but are you sure that is the case?
They (3) would have had to issue you a PAC for you to transfer the number.
Does it matter what call centre the rep is in?
Please clarify when your billing ends.0 -
I am being billed by three until december 15th. pac code issued on november 15th
I am no longer receiving service from three. I used the pac code. My number has been ported to my new orange phone.
No it doesn't matter what call center the rep is in. I apologise for my use of a single adjective to try and give a mental picture of an awful and awkward telephone conversation. Very un pc of me.
I guess I should have stuck around for 21 days of service to get my moneys worth and ported my number on december 7th or something right? Is that how its supposed to work?0 -
Thinking about this situation, if you have to give 30 days' notice from the time your PAC code is used, then you are always paying 30 days charges for no service.
If it is from when it is issued, then that's a different matter.
What is the way to avoid paying for service you can't use?0 -
Its definitely 30days from the day pac code is issued.
If the pac code is not used then the contract carries on.
This is my understanding anyway.
However is there anything in ofcom regs about not being billed for service that you are not receiving?
This three phone is a paperweight, but im still paying for it until next month.0 -
I think you may find they will issue a credit on your bill, that is what happened when I left Orange got about £12 back, and I have a statement from 3 saying I'm in credit by £4.20. So you don't really end up paying for those extra days, as you pay for the service in advance.0

So it's a wait and see and pray and hope situation then.
Ok. That's good I guess.
Thankyou very much.0 -
You normally pay around a month in advance so I doubt your final bill will be very much if anything at all.0

Being sarcastic/rude in your very first thread isn't going to inspire people to help you.0 -
Don't know about 3 but I'm with 02 and whilst the T&C say you have to give 30 days notice to end the contract if you request the PAC code the contract ends on the date the number changes unless you are still within the minimum term.
Not sure if its an industry wide thing as I thought they would make you pay for the whole 30 days regardless.0 -
You need to be more organised and request the contract cancellation the month before it ends. Then you're paying no more than you signed up to pay in the first place.0
