I went into the store closest to me today (Greenwich) and there are huge posters up announcing that the store is to close, but no date stated.

I wanted to buy a fridge freezer, which was discounted by 20% but when I went to the counter to ask about delivery & recycling of my old appliance, I was told they are no longer doing deliveries and everything in the store is carry out only!
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

I always thought that Comet was under the same umbrella as Currys and Dixons - is that wrong? Surely if they were then the stock would just be transferred over wouldn't it?

Or am I completely wrong on this?
Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time

I have been I comet Hull to buy an Apple wireless keyboard - £70 reduced to £54, 20% off not bad i thought. Until I checked what everywhere else was selling it for and to my disappointment Apple had the exact model for £57, pc world £56 and staple £48!!! With selling practices like this it's no surprise they've gone bust =(

  • Yep re Comet con I agree. Years ago I went after a deal on a TV.., when they didn't have the TV in stock I went to Currys and asked for a price match. They said as Comet could advertise the sale item but only have one item in store, once it was out of stock it wasn't a valid offer anymore so no price match. Neither shop did very well in my opinion.

I have only bought one thing from Comet/Dixons/PC world/Curry's since (I know they aren't all the same group but their practices are very very similiar). I buy all my large appliances online and save a fortune.

That's why these companies are in trouble (I'm sure Comet isn't the only one). It was the underhandedness of it that got me, not the price. What the administrators are up to (putting prices up then reducing them on 'sale') doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

I am now looking for a washing machine. I can guarantee I won't be buying it from any of the above stores.

I am sorry for the retail assistants BUT these same retail assistants are the ones who try to convince you to buy their store's overpriced ineffectual warranty deals. And to be honest, I usually know vastly more about the products than they do, with minimum research. In all the years of visiting these stores, only once have I found an assistant that actually knew what they were talking about.
