Nope sadly it happens to a lot of us and we land up deeper in schtook but you've been very pro active and dealt with it ... Well done, you've also had a bit if a shock so now you know what can happen in a very short space of time, maybe time to budget a bit for emergency savings so that if this happens again you could survive ?

Much easier said than done I know, and I'm not doing to well in that dept myself and really need to get it sorted

Will you have enough to get you through ?

Morning Rising! My boss checked with them and they confirmed I was paid 1st -5th November as full pay, then till 30th November as £0 I'm guessing the number seems inflated for the first week (I don't get paid as much as that per week after tax) is due to a tax correction from being paid less?

    Yup

They told him it will be corrected in my next pay packet so he has offered to lend me the difference to pay back next payday (as it was his mistake). I'm truly greatful that he offered this (and was in a position to) but that sits really uneasy with me so I have pushed him to request an emergency payment to be made instead. He told me he didn't want the paperwork, but I've stood my ground and told him I was greatful for the offer but that wouldn't sit easy on me

Standard payroll answer but it was your boss' fault & they can / should be able to make an emergency payment - if he doesn't want the paperwork ... tough - it was him that boogered it up in the first place!

Good on him for offering to lend you the money - but it wouldn't sit right with me either & I'd much rather have my wages corrected.

I should admit right here and now I don't do cooking chickens

I've cooked one maybe twice in my life

Ahhhhhh you don't know what you're missing

Just got a woopsied chicken at the local shop (£2.00 and it's huge) - so that should last me to at least the end of the week ..... not bad value for money!;)

VERY good point there Elantan. I did have savings a few months ago but they got gobbled up with the house move last month. I was saying to Mr Shortie how 'exposed/vulnerable' I'm now feeling (hence the kick to start paying extra off my debts suddenly) but you're very right - I need to look at saving too. Even if I don't pay as much 'extra' off the debts for a while to start building back up a buffer. Thanks for looking out for me and mentioning it, you're very right and I've been feeling horrendously wired all day as I'm not in control of this situation (though the ultimate outcome is good in that I will get the money paid to me)

I have been squirrelling away money each month for making the house more livable (not even just for 'surface' decoration as it were) so I've put a stop to any more spendning from that until I get my pay back. I 'know in that way I'm very lucky - but equally it's not enough to see me through the month, only to give me a longer buffer until I come unstuck

My boss is now trying to action an emergency payment. For whatever reason he kept pushing against it, referring to the amount of paperwork. I'm not trying to be awkward for the sake of it - if I could afford to do without I'd let it be. I'm not pushing for the emergency payment just to make a point (I'm not like that) but he definately seems to be trying to get it sorted thankfully. No idea yet when the payment may happen though

Right, plan changed - splitting the 'spare money' when I get it between creating a 'safety net' and repaying debts. I suppose if there is any good take-away from today, it's that I need to get some savings sorted, and this was a warning for me. This time, it's a mistake and I will get my money, but you never know what's around the corner right?

    xx

I'm a bit similar - DF for around a year - and I guess still technically DF as my very minimal savings (see below for why) & budgeting pots would clear the OD if I put them to that - but they're put away for a reason so don't want to do that IYKWIM.

All went t*ts up when I had to change my car which was 2.5 years old, paid for & had intended to keep it until it was at least 5 years old.

I had foot surgery last year which wasn't successful and, long story short, I had to get an automatic as I couldn't use the clutch properly anymore:(..... savings wiped out & OD appeared again ....... positive is that I've got a slightly newer car and that I've not had to resort to a loan to pay for it .... but I absolutely hate having the OD again :o

Good ..... it may take a few days to sort but not that long hopefully.:)

I know I certainly couldn't wait a month if only 1/2 my pay had been paid to me.

When I actually worked it out I was actually paid a teeney bit over a 3rd of my pay, not even half :(

Yes I know what you mean about pots for purposes. I will of course use them if I need to but I would much rather use them for what I had them aside for and create a safety net seperately

Sorry to hear about your foot.. and of course on top of that the fact you had to seel your car and buy another because of it. Hope you find the auto okay - they're soooo totally different and if you're used to a manual they can be hard to adjust to! My last car was my first ever auto and I managed 11 months with it before I sold it on. It was an older car though so I only lost £100-£200 on it had already done most of it's depreciation:rotfl:

When these things happen they can be very stressful ... But it's what we learn and how we deal from them that make us either stronger people or people that choose to play victims .... Great to see your both the former :)

I don't have much savings at all and anytime u have managed to get some something comes up to eat away at them, but I will get on top of it all so that I can stop this debt cycle I am in ... I spose in a way that why I'm still doing my 100 month challenge, it's not just about clearing the debt this time but also about getting some savings, I think that's why I'm taking as long as well

Thanks Elantan, it was quite helpful to have someone not 'flapping' as it were as it helped me keep my focussed head on

So, a salary update, it was finally sorted with HR to get an emerency payment sorted, and they say it should be with me by Friday. That's going to make things tight and I'll have to keep a close eye on my bank account but at least I'm going to get paid before next pay day

I have spent today inspite of the salary issues - I was on my reserve tank in my car and need it to get to and from the station (I have to drive where we live now - it's a 10 minute drive down pitch black country roads with no footpaths) so had to top up with £20 to get me through to Friday and maybe through the weekend (we were planning to do the last of our Christmas shopping this weekend)

I also had my Mr T order come today (I couldn't postpone it this morning by the time I realised how dire the pay was). It was supposed to be £76.82 but I was refunded the chicken as it came up under weight (after I was making such a thing about it the other day :rotfl:) Don't get me wrong, it's still a decent bird, but not what I paid for. I phoned only to grumble about it but wasn't expecting a refund.. I actually feel a tad bad about the refund now, whoops!
