I want a tablet for Xmas and I figure mobile geeks are best to ask

Looked at a few and Nexus 7 32gb for £199 seems right for me (i cant afford ipad)

Anyone got a tablet?

Also looked at Kindle Fire but still keep coming back to the Nexus

What do you think (for £200 max)

They all get good reports, the only ones to avoid really are the no brand name ones that cannot connect to a bonified app store, I don't think the OS is anything to worry about as two colleagues one has an S2 and recently purchased an ipad, another is an iphone 4 user and has purchased an android tablet, both are equally pleased with their tablets.
  • I would definitely go with the nexus 7 but if you want a bigger screen you can pick up a galaxy tab on ebay for the same money. I currently have the tab 8.9 and love it. It's served me well and is fast. Also has a great screen. If you want pure android though you should go with google products.

    How about 3g?

I often visit my Mum and she doesnt have Wi-Fi so considering the Nexus 7 with 3G

Would I need another sim/contract (in which case i wont bother), or could i plug my current mobile/contract sim into the tablet and receive data via 3G?

The Nexus 7 is a belter.

Higher res screen than others in it's class, regular updates from Google.

Probably. But it's £85 more expensive when the Samsung cashback is taken into account.

Simple choice then for people - is the difference worth an extra 72% ?

I still quite like the idea of Nexus 7 quad core processor & 32 GB memory, and it will be a Chriggy present so I wont be paying anyhow - but I'm definitely taking a look at the Sammy deal - Thanks for the post

Still thinking about 3G version and whether its worth paying for - anyone using 3G with tablet? Did you buy a separate sim?

Actually bit more on topic - Is there such a thing as cheap PAYG data sim?

I would rarely use it off Wi-fi but it would be good to have access to 3G when i go to my Mums - certainly not worth a contract sim though

If I could get PAYG sim with 1/2 gig data on it, that would be ideal - then I would definitely buy a 3G tablet

Can I tether a std (non-3G) tablet to my mobile for the odd occasion or is this just ridiculous?

I got the Sammy tab 2 7" on the deal listed above. Love it, superbly put together. £119 net after cash back (they even chuck in an 8gb card with the cash back). BUT if you have an XBox 360 AND an Amex card you can get it for £85 net!
