Windows automatic downloads failed to update. 1 x error code 80070005 and 2 x code 643.
I am sure that I haven't changed any settings and I find M/S help unhelpful.
Any hints?
Windows 7 Ult.

I've have a look in the error log in C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log as I think that error number is a fairly generic one, the log should have more detail.

Where do I find 'The Log'?0 -

Where do I find 'The Log'?
It's the one I mentioned in my post - it's called windowsupdate.log and it should be in your main Windows directory C:\Windows. It should give you a line by line description of what the software is trying to do and give you a better idea of what might be going wrong, it's irritating that the main software gives you what looks like a unique error number to go and diagnose but it's pretty much useless.
Do you know which patch it was trying to install when it failed or is it failing on all of them now? Have you tried installing any of them manually?

I have tried manual - no joy.
Tried the M/s merrigoround - no joy.
What I cant understand with M/S they know why the update failed, but choose not to say 'because a box in xxxx was unchecked' or what ever the reason. Instead they issue an ambiguous code.0 -

Tox - Tried your link. I was required to download Java 2ce despite it already installed. I then eventually ran the driver updafe and this was the result....

Toxteth_OGrady - Sorry to trouble you, but I tried a manual download again this evening and got a similar result. 'Failed' No question of any help ie go to or try. I despair with Nvidea. What, in your opinion, is my next move?0

Is it only the Nvidia driver that isn't installing? You can get the driver manually without using the java scan tool, assuming you're on 64 bit Win7 this is the link:
http://www.geforce.co.uk/drivers/results/49976
I wouldn't let Windows update try to install third party software.

Johnmcl7 - Thanks for persevering with me. I tried the 'Manual' download X 3, but I just get an abrupt 'FAILED' Not even a suggestion as why or how to correct this. That is my gripe.0
