    Interesting.
I imagine if you had IT experience then you would get more than 15 000 a year. There is also Citibank if you're after cold hard cash.

They will suck you dry and spit you out !! Don't go there expecting 9~5 or any paid overtime for the extra many hours you'll be expected to put in !!

For having one GCSE in I.T. he's doing quite well on 15k.

I agree, that does sound like Bridge to Employment. Unless you have a few years practical experience on top of that GCSE I doubt too many IT companies would touch you otherwise.

Decent starting salary ok 25k from what I've heard they will expect many years of specialised experience and many qualifications.

Fair point, I was basing this on a friend of mine who works for the company and is on 15k, however he does not have a degree or any real formal IT qualification with the exception of a GCSE and prior to entering the company he would have had no IT experience.

I guess the point I was making and quite badly I might add but for a challenging role, based in Belfast for someone with a degree and experience; 15k would be on the low side.

I'm amazed your friend was able to get an IT job with just a GCSE. I have a GNVQ & HND in computing, an mcdst and 8 months past experience working in IT support (unpaid voluntary work) and still can't get a job in IT.

The problems I seem to face are companies that offer these schemes where unemployed people with no IT qualifications get offered IT jobs & training yet if you have qualifications in IT or are employed you don't qualify.

Any other jobs are aimed at graduates with a degree. There doesn't seem to be a place for the inbetweeners with an HND.

I work for Allstate NI myself, I was working part time and needed a full time job and they were the only people hiring and willing to take me on even though I had no IT experience (just need a degree). I got full training and yes starting pay for non-IT graduates is not great, however since i started 4 years ago my pay has gone up by about £10,000 (you do your work, you get a pay increase every year) plus you get a bonus. They also offer flexi time, condensed working and other life/work balance options, as well as private medical care, private health care, cover for opticians, private pension, life insurance, buckle up baby (free car seat for every baby you have plus vouchers to buy them clothes etc) and other things that I can't think of right now! Plus, if you have experience you can negotiate your starting wage with them. And anyway, any work is better than none and if you start at Allstate and hate it, just stay until a better offer comes along (looks better on CV to be working than sitting on dole). Sorry for essay folks!!
  • Has anyone applied for a entry level IT job in Allstate if so how long is it usually after an interview before you will hear word back if you have been offered a position?
Do they let you know if you have been successful or unsuccessful?

I think they do the aptitude test first, if you pass that they do the interview on another day and usually within a day or two of that they let people know (depends how many candidates there are)
