Job hunting in NI

Options
Hi All,

I just got the tap on the shoulder tonight at work so I'm potentially out of work. I've now clocked up 5 years experience in Financial Services, where are the best places to look for work?

I'm not solely focused on going back into Financial services, I've an IT background in IT and Business; where are the best places to start looking? Are there any big employees also recruiting?

Any help would be great.

Sorry to hear that shaz, I was made redundant in Jan 2010 and although in a different sector than you I went self employed and have not looked back since.

I had been in full time employment all my working life and had been with my last employer for almost 20 years.

I did apply for loads of jobs with no joy, I hope you get sorted soon.

    I have been out of the loop for a while myself, but the places I checked out were ;

    Jobcentre online - http://www.jobcentreonline.com/JCOLFront/Home.aspx

Belfast Telegraph mainly on the night the job section was in it ( Tuesday I think? )

Agencies - there are a number and you should register with several of them. Coming from an I.T. background myself, I know there are always contracts available if you are prepared to work that way.
Many of the full time posts advertised by Agencies will be available through the Jobcentre or the Telegraph, but not all.

A good friend of mine did the contract thing for a couple of years, which gave him more experience in a short time.

Get someone else to read over your C.V. and ask them to be critical
You still need to be prepared for rejection. Its the nature of the beast. There are so many people applying for each vacancy.
If you get a rejection letter, try to get some feedback from the Company and if necessary change your C.V., but don't lie! Then move swiftly on to the next application.

PM me if you want info on the Agencies. My friend emailed me his 5 best Agencies in order of how they performed for him.

    Hi,
Have you thought of Allstate NI? They're hiring at the moment & are worth a look.
    Cheers,

Not that beggars can be choosers but is Allstate NI not a badly paid job?

Surely it can't be that bad.
  • £7 p/h, just under the £15k a year mark, and that's just marginally above the minimum wage; such IT jobs should be commanding at least £20k+
