TV licence for student halls?

We understand that most students do not need the final 3 months of their TV Licence as they leave the campus during the summer. Provided you don't need your licence again before it expires, you can claim for any completely unused quarters (three consecutive calendar months, e.g. July, August and September).
I think it's scandolous though that they consider this some sort of bonus. Not only are you forced to pay for channels you may not useyou're forced to pay for the times when you're not even using the blinkin TV? and being able not to do that is a bonus
So as your salonist, Is it ok if I charge you for all the hard work I put in tending your hair whilst you're no in the salon? oh no it's ok, to keep you as a customer as a bonus I won't charge you these fees, but if you I were to charge you these fees you must pay them otherwise I'll take you to court and you'll get a criminal record and a fine and look like a girl. If you don't like this, screw you! there are no other salons ahahahah evil grin!Charles J0 -
Hi,
Yes I found that today since I wrote my first post. I've been looking up about all this but even so the others will not buy one so it would be down to my daughter on her own to purchase one. Reading through the sites about TV Licensing and campaigns against it they are quite interesting, I'm more against it than ever now. It does seem very outdated and I just hope it will eventually be properly reviewedThanx

Unfortunately Lady I don't think your daughter can legally have a TV licence in a house that has a number of single occupants. What you're referring to are shared occupanies eg. - a student house, where the communal areas can be licenced.
I'm by law if your daughter gets a TV licence she'll have to keep the television in her room.Charles J0 -
Well the TV is in the lounge area of the flat that has 4 bedrooms for each person. The TV doesnt belong to my daughter so she couldn't move it as it's put in there by the halls owners so she is stuck really. They have been told they need a license for the TV but no one wants to get one, I can't blame them either really but even with a refund on the final quarter it's too much for my daughter to pay on her own. They have enough worries with student fees and loans and all the rest of it that goes with it to have to worry about that too. It's very hard being a student now days I think unless you have rich parents to help outThanx

My brother lived in a shared student house last year; which was classed as "individual households" as they each had a lock on their bedroom doors.
In the warmer weather, they often left the main front door wedged open to let air in....he came out of the bathroom one day to find a strange bloke wandering up the stairs. When he asked him who he was, the reply was "I'm from TV licensing; do you have a tv licence?"
My brother replied "I live here, are you trepassing illegally?"
TV lecence man quickly scarpered! ;DI have the mind of a criminal genius. I keep it in the freezer next to Mother....0 -

lol, that is a good story. infact, if a tv licence man does come to your door you are entitled to refuse him the right of entry. in which case he will go away and return with a police man and a warrent to search you house for a tv. probally gives you more than enough time to get rid of any tv's which you may not have a licence for. of course, it is entirely up to the individual to take the risk of not having a licence in the first place.

when i was a student the Bursar used to put notices up when the licensing people were due round saying 'we would like to remind all students that if you have a TV in your room you need a TV license. for those who do not have one the Lock-ups will be open on wednesday xth October (or whenever it was) for TVs to be stored away.' short hand for 'the licenseing people are coming, hide your TVs - he very handily arranged for the lock ups to be opened again once they had been and gone! :o ;D
Would it be equally OK if he helped you when you went shoplifting?...............................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0 -
