Tesco - Vent

goater78 .. you seem to be defending Tesco here despite accepting that it's annoying to the cusotmer.
Am I complaining that they have run out of stock?
No! ... they had plenty of stock as the photo proves.. it was simply at a higher price if you wished to take away that day... or you had the choice of waiting two days for it to come in to branch to purchase at the lower price.
I understand some companies operate different pricing for internet generated sales (normally delivered to the customer) but this was not an online order.
There are terminals in branch to check stock and then you fill out a form and take it to the desk.. similar to Argos I guess.
The terminal stated stock was available to take today.. at the price advertised. However I was told the stock was not available and would have to be preordered... and as they were so busy this would take 48 hours.
The fact they had identical sotck available on the shop floor is entirely relevant. From a customer service perspective it makes no sense to force customers to wait for a purchase.
Is there really any difference to the company? Internet prices are often cheaper due to reduced overheads... I can't see how this is applicable in this case though.0 -
To recap,
You saw a price on the internet of £14.97 and take home today, but you did not attempt to order it on the internet.
You went in store and saw the same thing, but it was advertised at a price of £20 and you offered to buy it at the internet price of £14.97. Quite rightly Tesco said that it's labelled at £20 and that is what you must pay in store. Then you refused the item in store. I note that at the £20 price you could have taken it home on that day.
Maybe if you had ordered on-line to pick up in store then you have a case, otherwise it's you who is at fault.
Update:
Just spotted on the web page:DELIVERY - Free Click & Collect may be available. Delivery costs are calculated at checkout
In other words the £14.97 price did not take into account any delivery costs, including click and collect. You could only find this out by going to the checkout.
So I went to checkout and got the following message:Sorry, we don't have enough Tesco CH10 Convector Heater items in stock right now. This item (s) has been added to your save for later basket. You can try to purchase this item again by reducing its quantity.
Update 2.
I misunderstood what was happening, see later posts numbers 15 and 16
Apologies to Bradden.

Sorry .I should have made it clear..the photo was taken from an in store terminal and states available to take away today. I didn't check online as Tesco is blocked at work. I never intended to buy online.0

He's saying that terminals in the store told him it was available today, to take home today, at a certain price.
We all know perfectly well that neither Tesco nor anyone else have to sell anything to anybody at any price.
The main issue here is that they are telling people they can buy goods at a certain time and at a certain price when they do not appear to have stock available. (Or rather, they do have stock available but it's 'different' - although exactly the same product.)There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

The view from the high horse isn't always that good and sometimes the facts get missed.
Apologies to all concerned especially the OP.

Thanks Dave..I've emailed Tesco. I'll update here when I have a reply from them.0

I'm not even sure this is strictly legal.
While I'm not sure about the legalities.....I'd at least agree its possibly misleading - so reporting to TS/ASA may be useful. If they agree, they may give tesco a telling off (or possibly even more if they've been in trouble for similar practices previously). You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
It's not an instore terminal. It's an instore web page that is not store specificThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I wish you would refrain from posting your opinions as statements of fact.
You were not there (to my knowledge) - I was.
Whist this was my first visit to this store the operation was clear.
The terminals as I have described them are clearly signed in store as stock checkers. They are alongside printed catalogues.
The idea is that you find the product you wish to buy using either the catalogue or a search on the terminal (using a touch screen). The system then tells you is stock is available. You then right down on a slip of paper the product code and quantity which you hand to the appropriate desk and pay for the item. You then collect the purchase from another desk when your order is called.. very similar to Argos - as I stated previously.
The terminal stared stock was available.. which I could see it was as I passed the items on the way to the desk.
Legally Tesco may have no obligation to sell me the items as the price offered.. however I believe this may breach some statutory legislation either under Trading Standards or the ASA.
Not withstanding the legal obligations I believe it's poor customer service with no discernible benefit for Tesco.0 -
Tesco a store I completely ignore. Far better value found with the foreign discounters.0
