Tesco - Vent

I visited a store this afternoon in Bracknell to purchase some heaters I had seen online.

I checked stock in branch and it showed available –see attached. It stated it was available today.

I saw some stock on an end priced at £20 but assumed it was a pricing error and took two to the till.

I was surprised when I was charged £40.

The staff member informed me this was a web only price and I would have to order at the desk but the stock would not be ready for 48 hours.

I pointed out the terminal stated available today and she told me it was incorrect.

She said it was different stock – although conceded it was the same product.

Needless to say I refused to pay £20 for a product advertised in store at £14.97.

It's pretty poor service to advertise a product for £14.97 but only if the customer is prepared to wait 48 hours - otherwise the customer has to pay £20 for the same item. I don't care where the stock comes from ... I just want to buy one.

I'm not even sure this is strictly legal.

Online prices are often different to instore prices. Its annoying but its life.

I also don't think its not legal

I appreciate that some companies have different pricing policies online to bricks and mortar.

However when you are operating a click & collect from store I think it does not make sense.

The other issue I have it that the kiosk in branch stated availaible to "Take home today". This was incorrect as they did not have the stock.. although the stock was in fact clearly available.

Different stock though. They will allocate say 100 stock for instore and 100 stock for web click and collect orders.

The stock you can see would be the instore stock. If they don't have any of the web stock available in store then obviously its not available to "take home today".

I accept its annoying but big companies like Tesco will have stock ring fenced for different operations so there is not much they can do about it!

You can be as anal as you like and make excuses until the cows come home.

This behaviour by Tesco, whilst perfectly legal, annoys the * out of customers and that is not the best way to grow or maintain your business.

It's something they should devise procedures to account for.

Of course it's annoying but it's different stock. What you appear to be advocating is web prices should be the same as instore prices. With the difference in costs that's not possible.

That's a rather fatuous excuse they are using. Even if true it's irrelevant to the fact that they were promulgating incorrect information.

Where on earth did you get that from? rolleyes.gif

I said they should sort out their systems so that they do not mislead customers into believing that stock is available for a particular price on a particular day for immediate collection when it isn't.

The issue here is that the item should not have been advertised as "Take home today", and whilst annoying, there is little you can do about it. The fact that they had an equivalent item in store is irrelevant.

So your argument is that companies shouldn't be allowed to run out of stock? Seems a bit harsh.

They're apparently changing their slogan from 'Every Little Helps' to 'Down With Whitey'
