Halifax ISA Saver Direct

Has anyone else opened up one of these accounts? Supposed to be able to operate over the telephone or online. I have just opened one and have been unable to access my £3k. Telephone service is a waste of time - can't get through to anyone who can help. Internet has no facility to move your money out into an external bank account. I have no other accounts at the Halifax to transfer to. This is a very long story, far too long to post. Basically they take your money and make it nigh impossible to get it out. Supposed to be an easy access Cash ISA - it has been a nightmare. If they say you can operate your ISA online and you cannot, is this not contravening Trade Descriptions?
Would welcome any comments and/or advice.

When you ring them, what reason do they give for not being able to transfer your funds?

Halifax savings line is manic at the moment because it's the end of the tax year.
I rang at 5.00 pm tonight and had to wait about 7 minutes to get through and the very helpfull guy who answered said they were all on overtime to cater for the rise in call numbers. My daughter rang at 6.30 pm and was answered in 2 minutes within the estimated 4 minute waiting time they warned about at the very beginning of the call. My only complaint with Halifax is that their number is an 08457 number rather than 0800 like Abbey.

if you have halifax online banking, you can set up a web saver account online instantly... these can transfer money to other accounts with other banks. You should be able to transfer from the ISA to web saver instantly, i can:)

  • I am new to this and not sure what the rules are but 'thanks' for your replies. When I phoned them I could not get through to the 'savings' section at all - permanently left on hold. Person on the main number said I could not operate this account online - by phone only - need to go through to savings - back to 'holding' again. As I am paying for the call, I was not very happy at being put back on hold again.

Thanks for the suggestion of a websaver account - quite honestly I do not want any more accounts, if this was a requirement of operating ISA Saver Direct, why does the literature tell me this?

    joe2cool:

Just add the ISA Saver Direct and Websaver to your portfolio (you can do it online) and then you can just transfer funds online!

Try 0800 3893 456 For Halifax Customer Services.

This is the number I normally use for all my queries. Im not sure if this is a public number, Although I havent had a problem to date ;)

You want it so soon? - I just wanted to check that you are aware that any money withdrawn CANNOT be paid back in during this Tax Year. It is your total deposits that count towards the £3k allowance, not your balance. Apologies if you knew this, but better safe than sorry! HTH
