Car Insurance Cancelled without reason!!!

Hi Guys, bit of a long story but im after any advice that you can give.

My girlfriends car insurance was due to run out on 3rd November. She has been insured for the last four years with Marks and Spencer car insurance and has a total of 5 year no claims.

M&S renewal price was over £400 which we thought was a bit steep and so we proceeded to use the compare the market site to get some quotes.

Loads of quotes came up and amongst the best were halifax car insurance which we thought would be good as we currently have a mortgage, and current accounts with them.

We filled in all details and took out the policy. A few days later we recieved all documents in the post.

However another few days on we recieved a letter imforming us that her insurance policy had been cancelled. The usual jargon was on there and it said from 19th november the policy was void.

NO REASON at all was given for the cancellation, and upon calling them to ask why this was the case, we have been told by several different people that they cant tell us why!!!

They say the underwriters have made this decision due to a discrepency in the validation. ??

After many long winded discussions with halifax, we have got nowhere other than to contact the underwriters direct (covea insurance plc).

On ringing them they have told us only to pay another company 20 pounds so they can do a check which will take up to 40 days to tell us why they cancelled the policy.

So in the mean time no insurance company will insure us as we have to state she has had insurance cancelled previously.

As said before she has 5 years no claims bonus, and has never ever missed a payment/direct debit.

Both our credit reports are very good.

We are both massively confused and very angry with this situation mainly because no one will even give us a reason for the cancellation.

I just wanted to know if anyone else has ever had anything like this before, and also if you have any advice, as at the moment her insurance is due to run out on the 19th and no one will insure her do to this situation.

Sorry for babbling, any help massively appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

She needs to send a formal complaint about this.

Her policy will set out their complaints procedure.

If she is unhappy with their response, then she can escalate the complaint.

In the meantime she will get cover (albeit probably expensive). She should see if a local broker (not swinton) can help get cover with the cancellation in her record.

What usual jargon? What'd it say exactly?

    What other company?

Did you actually cancel the M&S policy and received the no claims certificate.

Usually you have to send this away to new insurer to validate policy?

M&S have not autorenewed the original?

As mentioned. Did she cancel the M&S policy or cancel the renewal?

If you just stopped any payment and failed to cancel the renewal then that maybe why.
The no claims is attached to that policy and you now dont have any to use with the new one. They wont cover with zero no claims or a duplicate policy on the same car.

    The cancellation letter says this:

"Please accept this letter as formal notice that we are cancelling your insurance policy.

We have to give you seven days notice in writing before we cancel your policy as described in the 'cancelling this insurance' section of your main policy documents.

Then proceeds to say we must return certificate in pre paid envelope, and tells us its an offence to use the car without insurance .

On cancellation you will be charged for the time you have recieved cover as well as a cancellation fee.

So now i realise we will be charged a fee for the privelege. They must be having a laugh!!

Im so angry but dont know who to vent my anger at???

Also the company in question is called synectic solutions!!

    thanks

Your complaint is against the insurer who has cancelled without giving any reason!

You need to find out what this discrepency is/was.

Did you forget to mention and points or incidents to them? Wrong number of years no claims declared?

    That's strange.

Have you/she ever been accused of/investigated for benefit fraud? Or any other type?
