You 'contracted' with The Halifax, and it contracted with you, therefore you seek redress from The Halifax - not a third-party insurance company that the Halifax points you at.
The Halifax contacted you to cancel IT'S contract with you. The Halifax did-so for a reason, and The Halifax is the ONLY party that can explain this to you.
If it's reason is due to information from another party - that's not your problem - The Halifax is the party that decided to cancel it's contract with you.
Establish The Halifax complaints procedure - and follow it (to the letter - recording all correspondence). If you fail to gain satisfaction, then (and only then) escalate it via the ombudsman.

If not, why didn't you add theft, bank-robbery, false-accounting, etc. What would your next question be if the response is 'no'? How on earth did you think you could help with this silly question? Not necessarily. Halifax will not be the underwriter of the risk - they will either be an intermediary (i.e. broker) or it may possibly merely be an affinity arrangement. If the former, it is entirely feasible that Halifax are merely acting as the agent of the underwriter in enforcing cancellation - in which case the underwriter of the risk absolutely can explain the circumstances to the OP.0 -

It looks as though a company called BISL ltd owns all the companies in this situation. they are tied to halifax, and the missus previuos insurer M&S, and even own compare the market (who we used to get the quotes)..
Definately something fishy going on.
The cancellation letter was headed by halifax but signed by a Peter Thompson of BISL.
I really have no idea whats going on but im gonna write a letter of complaint and send it to every single one of the scumbags.
in the mean time what is the best course of action for getting car insurance even though we've had a policy cancelled??

Might be tricky as any insurer to whom you disclose the cancellation is bound to ask the reason for it. "Don't Know" isn't likely to be seen as a satisfactory response.
Best bet may be to take all the Halifax docs into a local independent broker. They'll be best placed to find you cover, and if they're helpful they may make a few calls with you present to try to find out why the policy was cancelled.
I'd get the complaint timeline ticking asap too. I don't think the FOS would see a refusal to explain the cancellation as treating you fairly.0 -

Nothing fishy really. BISL is Budget insurance they administer policies on behalf of about 20 different people including themselves. Each company they are in agreement with want BISL to use their stationary.
It smilier to Admiral running Sheila's Wheels and Elephant as well as having the Admiral brand.
You still need to find out why they cancelled your gf's insurance though. When you ran the quotes through did you play around with any details say for example one quote you put car parked in garage on another you did it as park on street that could raise questions perhaps. the only thing i altered was the no claims. I originally thought she had 4 years but after cancelling the m&s policy it turned out she had 5 years, so i changed it on the comparison site.
Can't see how this would affect the policy as would still have to post proof of no claims.
She doesn't have any ccjs or similar, and I cant see how m&s could insure her for 4 years with the same underwriters who have now cancelled her new policy.. Makes no sense as they must know her history !!

The 'discrepancy in validation' suggests that there is a difference between the old policy details and the new.
Sounds like some detail is different so I suggest that you triple check all details used for the quote before you shout at them.
CCJs shouldn't fall under 'discrepancy' but her history would.
The fact they know her history is probably the issue here. Something is different. You need to work out what the discrepancy is or get them to tell you.0 -
Everybodys circumstances change. My partner has changed jobs and hence travells 4000 miles less a year now, her no claims bonus has increased by a year etc etc.
That is no reason to cancel a policy, hence tarnishing her record and actually making it extremely hard and expensive to get car insurance.
Surely a simple phone call could prevent this, to confirm the changes.??
If nothing ever changed then this would eliminate the need to get a new quote every year??
My girlfriend has done absolutely nothing wrong, and is being punished unfairly. And to rub salt in the wound absolutley nobody can tell us what this discrepency is.0
