Some BB and phone package facts and figures

Hi

I have produced these figures in a succession of posts in another thread but thought they might save others some spade work if I stuck them all together!

Basically I am moving from Orange BB on a BT land line and want unlimited daytime calls and a reasonable download allowance.

At the https://www.bt.com/hopon site I am comparing the prices of the first 2 offers WITH unlimited calls with the first option

Offer 1:
BB + adding unlimited calls on a 10 gb package over 18 months without line rental =

6 months at free bb + 4.90 unlimited calls = 29.40
6 months at 13 bb pm + 4.90 ul calls= 78 + 29.40
6 months at 13 bb pm + 4.90 ul calls= 78 + 29.40

Total = £244.20 or £13.57 per month

Offer 2
BB and Anytime calls included over 12 months

6 months at 13 = 78
6 months at 18.15 = 108.90

Total 12 months = 186.90 or 15.57 pm without line rental

OOOps just seen the 'move from Orange' offer for 10 gb BB!https://www.vouchers.bt.com/promo/orange

18 x 4.90 unlimited calls = 88.20
18 x 5 BB = 90

Total =£178.20 or £9.90 pm !!? without line rental

BT 40 GB with Anytime calls cost

18 x £4.90= £88.20 (Anytime charge)
3 mon BB offer @ £9 = 27
15 mon BB @ £18=270

Total = £385.20 or £21.40 per month without line rental

...and from Virgin:

Broadband 30Mb speed and unlimited download and "Phone XL" costs £29.15 for first 6 months and £36.40 a month thereafter. You will get free installation worth £49.95.

So
29.15 x 6 = 174.90
36.40 x 6 = 218.40

Total = £393.30 = £32.75 per month ...with landline!!

Please feel free to correct any figures!

So actually, looking at all my own figures, if I stay with Orange with unlimited download £20.42 (and now they are upgrading my line speed) and pay BT line rental in advance, £10.75 + anytime calls £4.90 = £36-07 pm it is about the same as BTs 40gb limit package with line rental and Anytime calls...!!??

The only real difference would be the free BT wi-fi spots for my Iphone......any further thoughts...?

    TIA

There are lots of other providers out there, some who offer truly unlimited broadband. Any reason why you're opting for BT? I've had nothing but problems with their service in the past and have vowed to never return to them, though Infinity is appealing (if they provisioned my area).

    Where is your phone exchange?

Hi, as in past thread, exchange is SMEY so only BT, TalkTalk or Virgin, otherwise BT line resellers, like Orange who I am currently with.

Don't forget BT prices increase in January 2013. I know that the anytime calls at £4.90 are increasing to £5.15 and BT told me that will happen regardless of taking the contract now. Seems signing up for a contract at certain prices means diddly squat these days, they can increase the price if they so wish!
  • Thanks for the details information on the all the packages but I usually prefer orange and I find it good in service.

Well having just got my Orange MAC code, I got a call from the Orange retention team as I have qualified for a loyalty offer :rotfl:!!

Stay with them on BB and move land line from BT and get unlimited BB download, Anytime calls and line rental on a 12 month contract....for £20 inclusive of VAT instead of the £38 advertised price!!!

I have 7 days cooling off, so have said 'yes'.

This is what money saving expert is all about!

    Hi Vigman,

I am in a similar position to you. I am with orange for BB but paying line rental to BT. BB costs me £25.50 a month.

Orange keep pestering me to take out a new contract (BB plus line rental and evening and weekends free calls) for £29.50 a month.

I have been considering my options and was tempted by BT's offer of BB plus line rental plus free calls (anytime) plus free mobile wifi for £24.50. What puts me off is the bad customer reviews.

I would be very happy to get the deal you got with Orange if it was offered to me (I am a long-standing customer). Could you just clarify the "Anytime calls" that you referred to; is this for evenings and weekends?

Also, do you know if Orange would throw in mobile wifi access with a deal (did you discuss this with them). Apparently they have a good deal for customers who have mobile phone contracts with them (which I do not) and mobile wifi is included in that deal.

I can hardly imagine anyone on Horange being worried about bad reviews for BT! Both are bumping along the bottom in every consumer survey conducted.
'Anytime' calls are 24/7 (as the name implies), usually limited to one hour.
You are aware that Orange no longer offer LLU, and it is now a resold BT Wholesale product?

I am not at all impressed by orange; I suppose it is simply the fear of "jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire", or staying with the devil you know and all that.

Thanks for clarifying the "Anytime" question. I dont know what "LLU" is. Does it mean a direct supplier rather than a middle-man?

Sounds to me like Vigman got a really good deal.

    Local Loop Unbundled.
Why not switch to a decent provider instead then?
