Bless my mum, she said that all she wants from the Grattan catalogue is a new DVD recorder as she has got problems working the one we've got now which a state of the art Sony one (we bought it for my dad for his birthday one year).
The DVD recorder she has picked out is only £100 and she has said that she can't find anything else she wants so it looks like I've got £300 to spend now and my mum has said that I can sell the Sony DVD recorder which I should get quite a bit for (£100 I reckon at least) as it's multi-region.
I can get that camcorder and something else now too which I can sell on. All in all, I reckon I could get at least £300 from this prize now which is great.
I also won a Avene goody bag from the Daily Star Sunday which needless to say I haven't received yet as they are terrible at sending out prizes.
I've got until the end of August to win a holiday for myself and my boyfriend as he keep threatening to book one which neither of us can afford  . The problem is that he will just go ahead and do it so I have persuaded him to give me until the end of August to win us a holiday.
My 'Debt Free By 30' challenge officially starts on Wednesday :j - only 10k to clear this year, how hard can it be??

oh well, my mum has looked through the catalogue again and found another £100 worth of stuff. My sister has only found £160 worth of stuff though so I've got £240 in total to spend on something to sell.
I should still be able to get around £250-£300 though with the DVD player to sell.0 -
Well I wish you the best of luck! You seem determined to do it and luck regarding competitons certainly seems to be on your side so my fingers are crossed for you!Debt Free - done

Hi Emily
You've achieved so much. Well Done  I'm going to see if they sell kicks up the backside on ebay!!!!!! That's a kick up the backside for me, obviously :embarasseLet's start again (really need a kick up the bum now) :wall:Virgin CC £9793.710 -
I was thinking yesterday, am I too nice?
My boyfriend is always telling me I should put myself first but I never do. Like with that money I won from Grattan, my first thought when I won it was to let my mum and sister have £200 each. Now they were really pleased with the gift but I don't think they actually ever said thank you to me, like it didn't cost me anything so it was ok to just take the £200.
However, if I had kept it all for myself then I would have been able to clear half my credit card with the goods I could have bought and sold.
It's also like when I won the weekend away with £500 shopping spree, I gave it to my sister for her birthday but I could have easily spent that £500 on debts as they gave it to you as a cheque before you went and I could have just refused the shopping part of the weekend. My sister spent all the money on 2 items anyway which she's never worn.
So, the next time I win something, the first thing I am going to do is post about it on here so you can all tell me to stop being so nice and think of myself for a change!

Yes Emily, stop being so nice! Have a quick dose of       and a couple of      and for some things just stop being such an :A
Please think of yourself, whether it is using the money to pay your debts down quicker or to treat yourself, it doesn't matter, but you won these things you should really be benefitting yourself. After all, there is nothing to stop your mum or your sister entering themselves is there, and it is not as if you can "afford" to just give away £100's willy nilly, regardless of whether you paid for them or not.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Hi Emily
I DID tell you not to be so nice! When you won the Playstation and were thinking of giving it to your boyfriend I said no, sell it.... but I was drowned out by the chorus of people encouraging you to give it to him.
It's lovely to be generous and give presents, but just keep in mind that you probably need these things more than other people at present.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Hi Emily, yes you are too nice, although I'd've probably done the same thing in your shoes. You are working so hard at getting debt free that you seem to be forgetting how much you deserve a treat yourself. Your boyfriend is right. Don't forget you've sold a lot of stuff in the past year that gave you pleasure (didn't you sell a lot of crystal that you loved?). You've done a lovely thing for your mum and your sister but now it's time for you. If you win something that you really like - keep it. You win plenty of other stuff that you wouldn't use anyway so, just for once put yourself first and treat yourself - you deserve it!!

Thank you everyone
- I got an ear-bashing from my workmates today too about being so nice.
To be fair to my boyfriend though, he has repeatedly offered to give me the PS3 back to sell but he is really good to me and does help me out when I'm short of cash so I really wanted to give him that to show him how much I love him.
I will be stronger next time and think of myself and if I find myself having any thoughts of a generous nature then I will be straight on here to get you all to discourage me!!
I won a DVD today (The Black Dahlia) which I am going to sell and I've sold one of the PS3 games that my boyfriend didn't want for £25 which is good.
I've asked my boyfriend to buy me some stamps for my birthday (boring but very useful for winning those lovely prizes!!). I don't think there's any sign of a ring and a proposal coming my way but you never know :happyhear
Take care everyone :A
