Still don't get about the qualifiction, and I'd take expeirience over qualifications any day. If your step daughter wants another job in the same area, she does need to be careful not to come across as big headed (not saying she has, it's just an odd situation it seems).0

I don't think a qualification in the scenario is relevent -as for putting a sixteen year old into a supervisory position -that is just plain daft.
I don't think you will succeed in getting her job back -although you may get an apology for not following (or not having) a proper disciplinary process........but only by turning it into a crusade -and frankly at DSDs age she'd be better served by taking what lessons she can from the experience (that a face fitting in employment is worth far more than any qualification for example) and moving on. It hardly sounds like job of the year anyway.
Daska you could turn it into one of your crusades, get it into the papers, damage the newspaper's reputation locally I'm sure -but in the long run if your daughter has a very specialized qualification in a small field then it's likely to be a small community and getting labelled as a trouble maker who is quick to run to court or the newspapers may do her little good and could do her harm in the future when applying for/working in -other jobs.
Move on -be glad the girl is no longer working for such an inadequate employer with such toxic management -and concentrate on the important things-her exams.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

It's not a supervisory position and a personal preference for experience is not a factor, people without the qualification are not allowed to do the work.
Duchy, I came back to give an update on what had happened to the lad, IMO he has also been treated very unprofessionally, so please don't read more into it than there is. And I'm not at all sure where you get the idea she works for a newspaper? As a forum this is a sounding board for asking opinions and advice, getting thoughts in order, expressing frustration etc. and having a vent does not equate to turning this into a crusade. We won't be doing anything which will risk limiting DSD being able to get another position -not least because she loves this job and the training was expensive LOL. At the same time, if by the lad involved sending a written statement explaining the facts of the incident direct to the trustees he can get DSD a decent reference then that has huge potential to improve the outcome. If it doesn't then DSD may well contact the papers herself. It wouldn't be the first time she's taken on large organisations for the benefit of others and I hasten to add that NOT at our promptingEat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Whilst you can obviously have a vent you won't get useful opinions or advice unless you are willing to share the whole story.
What we seem to have here is a very unusual set of circumstances. I, along with most others it seems, are struggling to imagine a situation where somebody so young apparently is better qualified than her elders in an occupation where such a qualification is mandatory.
Obviously young people can have exceptional talent in a particular field. Music and sport are the two most obvious examples but it can happen in other areas. However I struggle to think of any field where qualifications are mandatory yet they can be obtained so young. Normally some degree of maturity and experience is also required on top of raw talent.

Yes it is unusual, but actually the only reason to want the information is to satisfy people's curiosity, it won't make any difference to the facts as stated. A bus conductor may have decades of experience of managing the tickets, dealing with passengers etc without a driving licence he can't drive a bus where the driver also acts as conductor. Whereas someone younger with a driving licence will be allowed to and could conceivably be paid more or get more work as a result. This is no different.Eat food. Not too much. I may be wrong, but I am going to take a stab in the dark and ask, was your DSD a web designer? It sounds similar to positions I have been put in when I was younger. That would explain how she could be doing a job that none of the other people are qualified to do and so young. Most older people don't want to know. If I am wrong I apologise.
My second question if I am right would be, was the obscene graphic by chance, uploaded to the charities website?
Zero hour contracts are very bad news. They have very little rights acossiated with them and sometime you will even count as being legally self employed. You may want to check with the CAB whether her status really counts as employed of self employed as this may give her another angle. In future you may want to recommend to you DSD that she not take on work that is zero hour contacted, because it can create a horrible mess of legal and tax related problems, which just aren't worth the hassle when you aren't even be offered regular work.
If you DSD was not at college she could end up as being counted as employed, but with no hours and unable to sign on because of this. She may well be better of without them, because her contract is probably designed to make her very disposable and this is how people burn out quickly imho.0 -

No danger of burn-out unless that can result from partying too hard with her 6th form friends LOL. And it wasn't an electronic image.
I agree, zero hour contracts are a nightmare - with the possible exception of getting the JC+ off your back if you're in an area of high unemployment as it can demonstrate that you're not avoiding work.
