  • The Universal Job Match is getting lots of negative feedback in the press. Shame as it was a great opportunity to put something good and effective together for job hunting. I think the Govt paid Monster £16m for this. But hopefully it will improve and JC will positively encourage sign ups and demonstrations.

One things for sure, the universal job match website is a total waste of tax payers money again! it will be littered with low paid temporary agency short term contract work. They will use specific recruitment agency's who specialize in warehouse type work.

There is nothing anything different about this site that a job seeker cant find on other sites.Like there are 100s of them .

Its just another way that the dwp can play or try to impose bully boy tactics on people who are already having a really hard time. I look forward to seeing them soon on the other-side of the counter.:)

Bottom line "Not enough jobs there" and those that are, very low paid and nowhere in line with the true cost of living. This isn't the fault of the unemployed, but governments! allowing millions of people to come here and flood the market driving wages down.Things will get worse before better. If anyone did the maths i think they will see the problem.

200 most active companies by live jobs
    https://jobsearch.direct.gov.uk/jobsearch/Browse.aspx?sc=em

The number of jobs posted by remaining 200 most active companies is a few hundred, much much less.

There is clearly a major problem with Agency Central (Warehouse) & its I assume sister companies, it has 38000 more jobs posted than Monster which is next highest.

    Why are these spam jobs?
These are jobs from the Monster site and Technojobs site which isn't a problem as thats what this is for - to filter through live updated jobs?
I have used Technojobs before and Monster
  • Not sure who agency central are though? They dont look quite right.

3rd party agencies, advertising through 3rd party job boards, advertising through 3rd party Jobcentre UJM site.

A lot of jobs will be ok, a lot will be spam, nobody is responsible or checking jobs through this chain.

50,000+ jobs through Agency Central is ridiculous.

UJM website has been hijacked by an outside job board.

If you go to apply for one of their jobs, you get put on a CV review site. Apparently after you've sent in your cv, they then ask for something like £80 to improve it. After that, your email gets spammed with viagra ads, etc.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.
  • Ive just been on again and theres 23 pages from job warehouse cv library I done a check for my area with the job warehouse cv library...and its found 2 jobs in my area. I have also had no feedback as requested but whats more worrying is i had a reply to a job i sent my cv off to (company confidential)....i had a txt saying my cv had been approved and i will need to go a website and enter the following info:
    full name
    address
    date of birth
    ni number
and also a photocopy of my driving license and/or passport with picture included.
This somehow don't sound right for administration job!
I haven't applied because im not stupid!
This site is hindering the people who want to find work! Cant someone somewhere please please look into this sham scam of a site by the dwp!

    @Lip_stick & @HotBubblegum;

your experiences prove the 'danger' of getting involved with these job boards:

    - i anyone calling themselves an employer can buy access to the database of CVs that you uploaded...you have NO control over who gets to see what you wrote; so do NOT put any 'sensitive personal info' into that doc at all (ie do not even put your real email address; use a temporary one that hides your real name etc).

    - ii a 'dodgy' company can then pretend to be a potential employer, and try to kid you into revealing all sorts of info that they can then use for identity fraud etc ... PHOTO OF ID / NI # are classic examples (you only need to provide these to a bona-fide employer face to face when you are about to sign an employment contract and they need to set up payroll & verify who you really are). OR try and con you out of your non-existent ££ in return for a supposed improvement to your CV...

-- these issues alone should be sufficient grounds to justify REFUSING to sign up to the 'job match' thing (plenty of other posts around confirming that they do not vet anyone claiming to be an employer or the nature of the jobs offered, so your CV is 'out of control' as soon as it is posted).

@pinkbeef; tell them you do not have / cannot afford a printer, but create a .pdf file print of your spreadsheet etc & put that on a USB memory stick.
Take the memory stick (make sure nothing else important is on it) to next 'interview' & give it to adviser saying 'you can check the details in there'.
The adviser should not put the memory stick into their 'own' PC (ie at their desk) due to virus worries etc; if they do not suggest the following option, you then ask 'can I read the memory stick and print from the 'public use' computers you have here' ... answer in my case was 'yes, we can try' ... but no-one knew how.
I figured it out in the end; but if I hadn't, that did not matter as the adviser was accepting it was 'their fault' that the public use computer does not 'look and feel' like your own PC at home (for the technically curious, it is running a version of Linux that has been modified so that it appears impossible to start any command or programme other than the browser and wordprocessor/spreadsheet apps that are visible on the desktop).
  • On your profile and when you register there are 2 boxes, one to allow the jobcentre access :( and the other to allow them to email you. I haven't actually ticked the latter and yet I am getting emails???

I've finally been badgered into allowing them access and thought, well at least they'll stop hassling me now. Unfortunately I've started to have a different adviser who is absolutely certain about the benefits of me making my CV public. His argument was rather unconvincing.

Me: I don't want to make it public on JM because I don't know who can see my details.
Man: But then how do you know when you send a CV to a company by the post who it's going to? You don't know whose letter box it might be going through.
Me: Because it's a reputable company e.g. The National Trust, and it's my decision.
Man: But you don't REALLY know, do you?
    Me: ermm, well....
Man: And when you respond to a newspaper job advert, you could be sending your CV to anybody.

I found it amusing that he didn't bother to pretend that JM is a good, secure site - he didn't exactly sell it.
