Haha, I thought my post was fairly comprehensive, apologies for missing a concern. For the record, I'm responding in my own time and therefore reserve the right to not pick up on every single point, I don't think that's unreasonable.

But.. re third parties... have you not considered that employers are third parties??

re access: I'm making no assumptions. I don't need to. JCP staff have a level of access that enables them to view an account they have been given permission to. They can also do job searches etc of course. Admin access is not required for this because UJ has been set up with this facility.
Managers have slightly different access, of course.
Website admin is covered by Monster who are contracted to do this.
As I said in my big post, DWP staff will acccess UJ via an icon on their desktop.

And, anticipating the next question: yes Monster were awarded the contract to provide the IT and IT support. BUT, and read this bit twice if you need to, this does NOT give Monster any advantages over the jobs posted.

My advice, if you're at all worried about what JCP can see on your account is to give them access before you go in next time, and ask them to show you. You can always run home and remove permission if you're still not comfortable with it.
What access do managers have and any other special groups ?

Can jobseekers account access permission be overidden & by whom ?

My issue with Monster is not that they have some kind of job advantage, that hadn't even crossed my mind to be honest. My concern is that own jobs site and the one they built for the US Gov. which is supposedly more advanced that the UJM site, was hacked and all the private data of their users was leaked.

I would never give out all this kind of information to any other website, so why should I give it to a company that are known for not taking good care of it?

So in this case, even if I don't allowed JCP staff access to my account, the problems with data security will have already occurred, because by registering, my details have gone to a US server of a company I do not trust. So how could I take you advise? It doesn't help.

However, thank you for clearing up the issue about different levels of access. I do appreciate you taking you own time to do this.

    You're very welcome.

I'm not going to go into details, but bear in mind that yes Monster have have contracted to provide and maintain the IT, but DWP have their own security people - they will have been consulted and their concerns taken into account. DWP won't want the site hacked anymore than you will.

They have suddenly been a lot of jobs appear on there from the Monster site and as I am not a registered user I can't tell you just what happens but they say 'hit the monster logo' to apply

First question - not sure if I'm allowed to give that info, so I won't sorry. But it's nothing you need be concerned about.

Second question - NO. The only person who can change this is the jobseeker. It really is that simple.

That's interesting to know, thanks for pointing that out. I wonder if it will link existing Monster accounts, bit like Facebook can. I suppose it's bound to happen that they would link their other jobs site in with it. I wonder if it will do that with any other websites or just Monster.

  • The issues I have with that site and system are twofold.
    1. The security - they state on the site that they do not guarantee to protect your data, nor protect you from third parties emailing you. You are being forced to add your details to a site that admits it is not secure and abdicates responsibility completely. The JC would be more than welcome to be emailed a log of activity from a more secure site - or at the very least if they want online form filling have it separately.
    2. What happens when a scam job is attached to your file, or, what is certain to happen, a scammer invites you to apply. Would you then have to happily give out your details to the scammer or get sanctioned? The only things an 'employer' needs to use the site are a phone number and a valid postcode - that's it. The thing is wide open to abuse - with the scammer knowing that you will be forced to apply.

Come on, you can tell us.

Is it on the staff side or jobseeker side ?

Does a JC manager have no additional rights than a standard advisor on viewing jobseeker's accounts or is it management of JC staff/tasks you are talking about ?

Give us a clue if you have to.

I really hope with your second point that common sense would apply. Like when you get matched to a job by an adviser and the ad tells you to apply online, but when you try to the website doesn't exist when you try it. I have never had an problems at the Jobcentre when I have explained this has happened in the past. I guess it depends on in the long run, if you still get to talk to someone about this, or if you job searching is checked automatically.

OK I just applied for 10 jobs on their. However only 5 are saved in my jobs applied as they are done through the site. The other 5 I had to email the employers direct. So I marked these as already applied for however the dont save in my accont application history so it only looks like I have applied for 5 jobs, They should make it that you can also save these jobs in your applied history on you job record.
