Can you give me an idea of what this is please as even after googling it I am still unsure :o My DS, 13, has a laptop but is a real computer geek so not sure if this is to replace a laptop or is something entirely different. Thanks you.

It's not designed to replace a lap top, but is a small computer for tinkering with, customising and programming on. If he's a proper computer geek, he'd love one.

Wikipedia - don't worry if you don't feel much wiser, I'd say I was geekier than the average mum and I'm not sure it means much to me, although DS2 has one. Or their own FAQs are here.

And a soldering iron, if he's anything like DS2 ...
Signature removed for peace of mind

Thank you thank you thank you Mupette for Firebox ;) I got a lazer T shirt for my son (14th birthday) and it's been one of my most sucessful presents ever. The light it comes with is not a laser and he thinks with a real laser the effects will be even better, but it's pretty good as it is.

If he's got a skateboard + scooter then perhaps a trip to Vans/Animal/Saltrock/Ripcurl? Nothing beats and expensive, branded hoody when you're a teen.
They're a lot more into their safety gear these days too so maybe a helmet/pads or new trucks and wheels to customise his board? Can easily spend £100 on bits and bobs that way.
Just to put it out there but if you're somewhere with some nice big hilly and grassy areas then maybe a longboard? Not so much with the tricks but amazing with the speeds :)
