is each offer - use once only ?
Each offer has its own terms and conditions so it is worth checking in case in the future a special can be used more than once rather than just presuming.

I downloaded the Shell offer about week before I actually put petrol in my car. Once I'd paid on my Amex, I fired up FourSquare to check in and noticed that it had already changed to "Redeemed". Checked a few days later online and saw the money had been credited to my account!

It may therefore be worth downloading every offer the day they're announced.

  • This may be a daft question, but does the mobile phone have to be registered to yourself?
The phone/application and the card holder can actually be different people. You just need to sync the card to the Foursquare account.

So lets say Mr has the Amex Card and Mrs has the phone with the Foursquare installed. As long as the Foursquare account and Amex Card are sync'd... then it should work if Mr & Mrs are together in Shell... Mrs checks in, and Mr pays on Amex...

This may be a daft question, but does the mobile phone have to be registered to yourself? Is it possible to do it by using someone else's phone, and getting them to download the app? Assuming they were with me at the time, could I then check in with my details, and use my Amex card, while using someone else's phone?

It doesn't matter who owns the phone. All you need is a phone that supports the app. You then download the foursquare app and login

So I would log in with my details on their phone? Would they be able to log in separately with their details on the same phone (after I had logged out of course!)? (Sorry if this is a daft question, but I just don't use my mobile phone except to receive and make emergency calls, so really not au fait with how they work at all)

Yes, you just log in, do what you need to and log out afterwards.

  • Great! Thanks. Now I just need to find someone with an appropriate phone! :)
  • I'm thinking of offering it as a service (checking into every offer on your behalf) but unsure how much demand there'd be for it!

No problems :) As I mentioned, checkin to every offer once they become available. Then if you ever forget to "check-in" at the time you're visiting, it appears that you will continue to receive the discount anyway as long as you meet minimum purchase criteria etc
