I want to stay with ovivo because (potentially-if I have understood it correctly) it's only £10 one off in return for monthly allowances that apply every month even if the user doesn't top up again.
Yes - this is correct, and the £10 sim comes with £10 credit, so the £10 isn't really a cost. You may not need to topup for a very long time cos the free monthly allowance is pretty generous, but the £10 credit is useful for using voicemail (which costs 6p per minute I think) or if you use the phone abroad.0 -
Will 3 not let you move to their pay as you go and you could port out of there when suits?
Otherwise, sim zero still appears to be an active call plan although I don't think they sell it anymore as such, you could see if they will move you to that at the end of the 30 days, if needed. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. But will they let me port out again without topping up?
That is my main concern. I could move to any PAYG but the main need is to be able to port my number back out again without having to top-up."fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell)0 -
It used to be that if the sim/acc wasn't topped up it wasn't fully live on the network, and therefore they couldn't generate a pac for it.
I have no idea if that's still the case, but it used to cause all kinds of problems. . .0 -

That makes sense.
So my next question...
Which network has the cheapest top up?"fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell)0 -
When I needed to do something similar last month, I used GiffGaff and topped up with just £5 - I got minutes and texts, but no data. But that was ok since it was only for 2 - 3days.0

By the way, my GiffGaff SIM came 2-3 working days after ordering it on their website0

My understanding is that they can't charge you for another 30 days, they can only charge you up to the point your number is removed from them to your new network.
Say if you move the number 5 days into the 30, you'll just be charged for 5 days.
That was certainly the case with orange.0
