Keeping on top of the washing!

Tumble drier is the way to go! I couldn't face another winter without a tumble drier so we invested. Yes they are expensive to run but no need for a dehumidifier now, turning the heating up to dry things quicker, redecorating because of condensation mould, buying more clothes as most are stuck in the washing pile. I couldn't live without it now!0

Having no central heating, we invested in a small Indesit dryer when OH got a bonus earlier in the year. It has been an absolute godsend and is on most days, even if only for towels. I seem to have a never-ending washing pile at the minute - there was a large pile of coloureds waiting for me when I got back from my Mum's at the weekend to which I had to add my rugby jeans as they were horrendously muddy.
Unless I've slopped
I wear my t-shirts for a couple of days, jeans for three days, bra for three days and pyjamas for three days.Work tunics have to be washed after every wear (infection control) and when I;ve been at the rugby, I wash my thermal vest and leggings and my thick socks straight after taking them off so they're ready for the next game. Usually do a couple of loads a week and OH does one big load of his work shirts etc at the weekend. *The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
My Mum has a rule for her foster children that clothes touching the body (underwear, leggings, tshirt) need to be washed after each wear. Clothes not in direct contact with the body can be worn more than once (jumpers etc). I think the exception is jeans which people seem to wear a few times before washing. I tend to stick by this and my washing pile isn't excessive. But there are only two of us and I imagine that soon changes when you have a few children!0

have a tumbler but hate using it. Try to get washing out as often as possible.:footie:0

I have no radiators/central heating here. I have only one electric fire in the dining room, and a gas fire.
So virtually all the washing gets thrown in the TD (esp at this time of the year!) I have myself and the OH, plus a grubby toddler, and do 3/4 loads per week0 -
I always do the washing on a Sunday and then it's ready for the next week, we do have a tumbler dryer but never use it, as concerned about the elec costs but useful to have if needed.0

I drop it at the laundry, and pick it up a few days later!
Although, I have actually had to give this up now. Much as I hate laundry, it really was getting far to expensive, plus they don't exactly take the best care. So I am trialling a regular cycle of a wash every couple of days - and dry it in our extension. I hate having washing lying around the house, which is why we had tried to outsource it.
Plus it's one of those tasks that seems to be completely my job, which slightly annoys me. When I met DH his house stunk (classic single guy) and I realised he really didn't know that you have to wait til clothes are fully dry to put them away. He'd leave them out til they were 'dry enough' and then shove them in drawers.
So the next step is to get DH to *see* the dry laundry, and rather than moving it out of his way so he can see the TV - actually put it away! But his history of putting away not-quite-dry clothes makes me nervous of this...
end result means it completely my job! Which does annoy me a little.0 -
Wow just logged back in and seen huge response!
Thanks to all who have replied, lots of tips and advice!
To those that have asked how we have a dark and light wash on top of uniforms - its mostly down to sports wear, dog walking gear and a few outfits each a week for evenings and weekends (day and nights out) plus any tea towels. BUT I must confess I am with whoever said about liking to have clean clothes on!!
Thanks again! :T0 -
. I think my tumble dryer has cursed me! The first time I used it since moving house in June, and it seems to have stopped working! Typical 0
