  • I got my DD's dummies off her on her 3rd birthday. I had a week of hell, then she discovered her thumb. She's 6 now and still sucks her thumb ... more than she ever used a dummy. I was told I took her dummy off her before she was ready which has caused the excessive thumb sucking.

    Good luck!

My son had a dummy I took it off him at one. I think he would have liked to keep it for comfort. I'm sorry I did that now.

My daughter didn't have a dummy and has it has been said, her teeth were being affected by her sucking her fingers.

My niece had a dummy for years. I couldn't understand her as she talked around it but she hasn't one now.

I think there is a lot of snobbery around their use. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter. They give comfort and in hindsight I wished Id allowed my son a little more time with his.
But if ever I stray from the path I follow

OP I wouldnt worry about it for now if your child is only 2.

When she is old enough to reason (Id say from about 3 onwards) prepare her for it and explain that theres lots of new babies being born who need dummies, so the dummy fairy is going to come and take her dummies to all the babies and will leave a present for her. My son wrote a letter to the dummy fairy and then left his dummies at the door. Next morning there was a present there, from then on he never mentioned them again.

I was sceptical about it working as he loved his dummies, but it did!!
