Hargreaves Lansdown flotation

Hargreaves have announced their intention to float 25% of the company in the near future. They have already offered large investors a chunk of the cake and are now testing the water with people like me who have vantage accounts with them.
The offer is for a share investment from £5k up to a maximum of £25k. HL are smart cookies when it comes to timing and opportunities and around now would seem the ideal time to maximise their income from a float.
Has anyone else been offered an opportunity to invest ?
Will anyone be supporting this flotation ?
Does anyone have an opinion as to the wisdom of investing in HL at this time ?

I received the paperwork in the post this morning and was thinking of posting here for advice too.
£5,000 is a great deal of money to me but if it is a good investment I would be interested. I expect I will contact Hargreaves to say I am interested and then hope to find out more info and the general consensus as to whether I should buy the shares.
I would be most grateful for advice on the wisdom of buying these shares0 -
ive just joined hargeaves and landsdown wonder if i'll get an offer0

are they offering discounts to their investors? My policies are based not on some economics theory, but on things I and millions like me were brought up with: an honest day's work for an honest day's pay; live within your means; put by a nest egg for a rainy day; pay your bills on time; support the police - Margaret Thatcher.0 -

The letter which was sent out says that they have set aside an allocation of shares " for selected clients " - no idea what criteria they use. But in any case it will be possible to buy the shares in the market once they've floated.
There is really no way of deciding whether this might be a good investment without seeing the prospectus, which will be available on their website when it is published.0 -
oh well that wont be me then ....cheers cheerful cat0

I am also a vantage customer and have been offered shares. It would be naive to think this flotation will be like the giveaway utility flotations of 1980's. However, it will be priced so that the institutional investors take up the allocation. I we get the same price as they do then it will probably be worth a punt. I'm going to register and keep my eyes and ears open.0

There Is Some Info.about The Float And I Expect There Will Be More On The Daily Telegraph Business Site,by The Way I Am An H L Client And Have Been Offered Shares0

Keep the info on this coming in as with the current markets unexpected price changes seem to be occuring. The main issue here seems to be the fact the one buys the shares without knowing the share price which is set on the day the offer closes I think. Difficult to get a check on the price in order to compare the price with other companies with a similar balance sheet. Any thoughts on demand. Perhaps a pole of clients to see what percentage will seriously consider investing, this is what HL are doing anyway by registering your intention/interest to purchase shares - hopefully this info that HL will have access to will not have influence on the final share price i.e 'max as possible scenario' Further thoughts/ideas/comments on this offer are required.0

I'm also a Vantage holder and have been offered the chance to invest. Hargreaves Lansdown are a very well known and respected firm of financial advisers and they have a good reputation within the industry. I suspect that there will be a high demand for their shares although obviously nobody yet knows what their price will be. I do have some spare cash and am thinking of opting for a £5000 allocation. I wouldn't normally put this amount of money into a single share investment but I have used the company for a long time and have a comfortable feeling about them. If I go ahead I will eventually put my shares into an ISA.0
