Hi guys,
As you are all aware i did a carboot yesterday with a couple of friebds and in between customers we were reading some old magazines. My friend suggested that i should sell my giving birth story and my should be dead story as its £500 a story.
what do you guys think/ i'm all for easy money but is this the right sort of thing to do? everyone knows what happened so its not a secret but do you think i may be frowned upon?

What would you do or have you done this?

I don't know what happened but it would really depend on the story as to whether I would sell it. I know mags like take a break etc like personal stories though...

    Hi Shamu

My DD was born with a congenital birth defect and I was approached by a mag through a support group for the condition. I agreed to do the story on a no fee basis to raise awareness.
I asked that they make a donation to the hospital that cared for her to be told *we dont have a budget for that*

Not two weeks later there was another story about a baby with the same condition and the mum had been paid £500    I wasnt happy

I didn't want to do the story and be thought of as making money from DD's misfortune but agreed due to awareness issuess!!!

I suppose the moral to my story is - GO FO IT :D:D

Why not? You are only offering the story at this stage - they may not actually want it!

As long as you don't mind your picture in the magazine, with neighbours and other town local recognising you (thousands in your local area will read whichever magazine you pass it on to!). Obviously at this stage, you would not know whether it would be good/bad feedback from locals, (not knowing your story!)

Who is going to frown upon you? Friends or relatives?? And what business is it of theirs if you do sell?? (Just go careful with and slatings and naming names!!!)

You need to be aware that you will have control over the way the final article is worded.

The final article could make you - or your parents - feel embarrassed or worse!

If you are thick skinned and don't give a stuff what others think of you, then go for it. But remember that the editor wants "a good story" and will "massage" the truth, if necessary.

Having now read your post (crossed!) it is an amusing tale! I suppose though as your parents are involved, you would need their permission (from a moral point of view), but I can't see why you should not do it!

I'd sell without a second thought.

If it was something bad, that I felt bad for making money on, I'd give it to a charity, etc. But other than that, my life story's currently for sale at £1m if anyone fancies writing it down :)

I'd love to sell my "I made out with Halle Berry while she was dressed in the Cat Woman costume!!" story but it isn't true and so would have limited appeal :(

Shame really, that costume was great.
