If it happens to be a child that stumbles onto that site of yours and you bounce them onto a clearly adult location then you are breaking the law and can be put on the register and I will have no sympathy for you.

    Which law is that?

Obviously the law that keeps adult magazines on the top shelf of shops. Just randomly bouncing people to malicious or even dodgy sites is wrong, in what world is it ever right?

Now, are you one of these who think it is perfectly fine to phish sites which is one step away from what he is doing, duping someone into believing they are going one place and then sending them elsewhere, because I do not.

If you sell a child an adult magazine or beer, or drugs or ANYTHING of clearly adult nature that they would not be able to get themselves then that is called grooming, I make no distinction here whether the material is in print or in digital form.

It matters not that they can find these sites themselves, you only have to go to any market in the world for the printed versions but even they would not dream of simply handing a random person whoever they may be something clearly dodgy.

Forget the fact that the opening poster may moan that he was trying to get back at his former partner, he is clearly only harming the customers and he hasn't even stated what kind of site he was running...

Ah, so you're struggling to come up with a specific law and you don't appear to have grasped the issue.

Gay and adult websites are not "malicious" or "dodgy."

I don't think there's anything wrong with directing visitors from one website to another. That's how the Interweb works. It's nothing to do with phishing. Many websites use IP address and/or other details to redirect visitors.

How do you get from "Is it legal to redirect banned IPs to gay websites?" to "grooming?"
  • My 2 pence,
    1. You may have an issue if the site your point to has a problem with it, but not many people complain about more traffic, and if they have adverts on their site then they will probably love you for it :).

    2. if his using your content then that's website content theft, ask him to stop, if this fails talk to his ISP/Host,
My making them aware of the copyright infringement they are responsible for making sure the content is removed and they will lose any protection under the Ecommerce Directive that it may have had against proceedings relating to the infringing contract.

Specifically which law do you think regulates redirecting websites?
  • Also a redirect isn't the same as a ladder, if you're web filters block that content then that content will remain blocked redirect or no redirect,
if you created a proxy that showed they content from your site then maybe, but a redirect is just points you/you're browser in a different direction.

Some can be quite disturbing though.

I've redirected "undesirables" who are posting spam to some goatse sites in the past.

I wouldn't expect any legal comebacks at all.

I remember that site well. Hello.jpg used to be the classic image to put up in response to someone directly linking to an image on your site.
  • There are two sides to every story and at the moment we only have your version.
Without hearing your former partners view on this I would judge you both as being dodgy characters
