Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 9th Nov. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well[/I][/I]
Morning all:wave:

Morning all. I have been up since 3am:eek: so thought I would start todays thread. I am having big issues with my sleep, due to stress, so you might be seeing a lot of me :rotfl:.
I didn`t do half of the things that I meant to do yesterday, so will try to do some of those things today. I am going to look on other sections on money saving, to see if there is any info on real fires.I have an old fireplace in my home and I would love to have a real home fire. It`s probably very messy but I just need to check what I have to do safety wise. I really have the urge to make my home a bit warmer. Its an old brick council house (30`s) and is the coldest house I have ever lived in.I also need to get some thicker curtains up as the windows are rubbish.
I hope to get to know everyone better here. Some names I recognise already. Jackie O, how is your daughter doing? Hope all is well with her. Everyone else, I hope you have a productive and stress free day.xxx I definitely need to get my stress levels down and get more sleep. See you all later x“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. Your really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” Lucille Ball.0 -
Morning all
Elaine, I hope things get better soon, JackieO have fun spoiling DD
Frosty here this morning, fish fed, washing ready to go on the line, I have a little tidying to do before the hoards descend around midday. All the cooking is done, I just need to lay the food out nearer the time.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

I woke up early too and am on laptop while dh is downstairs and dds are asleep.
Everyone loved the home made pizzas last night so feel that compensates for a plainish lunch today. Got YS braising steak to cook slowly in cast iron pan (Christmas pressie at half price so could not resist it) sprouts and mushy peas for dh, carrots and broccoli, roast spuds and small yorkies. For dd who does not like beef I got a couple of YS lamb chops to braise.
Might stew some apples for a crumble or make sweet pancakes with apple and ice cream for afters.
Feels strange there will be no one doing work on the house tomorrow as we have kept findings we needed or wanted doing. At least we now know the electrics and plumbing should be safe :j
It will be nice to be able concentrate on getting small pressies for dds and dh and sort out cupboards, try new recipes etc and get dd all better now she is home from hospital.
JackieO
Enjoy spoiling dd once you can - it will do you both good.
DH has pounced on the solar indoor lamps I ordered and has commandeered them for downstairs. Quite funny because if I has asked him about buying them he would have said it was a waste but now he has seen them he is chuffed at the idea of free light
Hugs to all who could use one."This site is addictive!"

Hi Elaine and HH,
Hope everyone,s okay.
And special thoughts to those serving past and present - lest we forget. DD at memorial service this morning
Elaine - get yer chimney swept, that,ll be the first thing, you don,t want a chimney fire, and check out if your entitled to free cavity/loft insulation - good luck
Went to get eyes checked yesterday - very OS with my coupon for free eye test - I nearly had a heart attack when they told me i,d need varifocals and even BOGOF it,d be £400 _pale_ - i,ve never had glasses before so wouldn't have a clue... I said i,d think it over and Did look on line as I have the perscription, but they want a PD measurement and I havn,t got a clue what that is
Nearly finished on Christmas prezzies, just the big ones for 3 kids and OH, waiting for payday to get them, but if I have to get glasses, they may have to just admire my new face furniture as their gift :rotfl:
Will be washing for England today as DD has cleared her floordrobe:eek:
Stuffed belly of lamb for dinner with all the trimmings, will be enough left to wizz into shepherds pie for later this week.
Mona - good luck to DS, and I hope your 'fayre' went well, our jumble sale was packed, find out how much we made today.
Have a fab day xxNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Morning all,
Thanks for the help re my tooth. Doesn't feel too bad this morning but that may the the bottle of brandy I pored on, drank last night:o it's funny my heads aching though.
Hester enjoy your lunch
Elaine, we have a real fire. First thing was getting the Chimney swept. I must admit we love it. Although dh does all the fire building, he is quite territorial about it:rotfl: aren't men funny. It's fine by me I've got enough to do.
Islandmaid, I just managed to persuade them I could manage with readers and distance last time but I suspect my next visit they will insist on varifocals. It's such a faff changing specs all the time. Let me know if you find a cheap way of doing things.
So today off to Yorkshire for lunch with mum and dad and catch up with db and dsil. Just a light breakfast for me as mum is doing a big roast lamb dinner. I will avoid lots of potatoes and eat mainly veg with meat. I won't bother with pud. I am wearing my new jeans so hoping to still be able to fasten them at the end of the day.
Strictly was good last night, I reckon Fern or Richard are going out.
Need to finish off some washing before we go and my hair needs a wash. Have a lovely Sunday all J xStarted Self Managed DMP 10th May 2017.

Morning everyone,
Elaine Big hugs to you, hope you feel a little less stressed today.
JackieO Have fun spoiling your DD.
Julie glad the tooth feels a little better, shame about the headache though!
Islandmaid i had no idea that glasses were that expensive.
Off to church this morning for Remembrance sunday with DD1 and DD2.
DS has had his rugby cancelled so I think that he is having a lie in.
May start my Christmas shopping after church today, yes I know that most of you have already finished!
Beef stew for tea today.
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0 -
Hi chums will be baking up a storm today so DD can have lots of 'treat' things that she wouldn't normally have.OS cakes like Rock cakes which she loves and jam tarts also a favourite and of course some shortbread and a big Victoria sponge.Weather is beautiful and sunny here at the moment and I'm tempted to bung a wash on and let it have a blow as its so nice outside.Well must fly, flour to sift, and eggs to whisk Shelly is doing fine at the moment its all rest and recouperation for her for awhile .Thank chums

Morning everyone
Thinking of all our brave service personnel past and present who do an amazing job to protect us, often in awful conditions - thinking today especially of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice xxx
Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x
Clear bright and sunny with a ground frost this morning, but looks lovely outside from the comfort of my 'puter chair in my nice warm dining room!!
Dinner last night was the curry we didn't have Friday night, all eaten and enjoyed.
We managed to get several jobs done yesterday and caught up with both sets of parents and some friends we hadn't seen for a few weeks. Then came home and chilled.
Not very OS today as going out for lunch, but looking forward to it as always delicious although not cheap - taking DH's Aunt with us as a thank you for helping out with childcare a few weeks ago.
Have a great day everyone, stay safe and well x

Morning everyone.
Beautiful sunny morning here. Knew it was cold and overdid the layers a bit walking the dog and am now boiling :rotfl:
Off swimming with this kids this morning, DS has a swimming lesson this aft and I need to pop to town to pick up a package I ordered.
Tea will probably be the usual roast chicken and veg.
Went to see Skyfall with H last night. Great film, still not very "Bond" like to me but I guess I am used to the set format of the old films
Hugs and spoons all round xxx
Elaine sending positive vibes that stress improves and things settle down. No idea where you live but it might be worth checking you can actually burn wood and coal. Our first house was suburbs and we could only burn smokeless fuelI would ring your local council, and check. Enjoy your fire, am very envious of those of you who have them
